Up 90-85 and give up an 11-2 run to end the game to lose in Stillwater. I've never seen a team repeatedly blow late leads and fail to close out games like this one.
We have a guy, who has one worthwhile talent, and several not. We have a player who can take the ball to the basket, and at the end of games when officials tend to be more forgiving of defensive contact, two things happen. He either gets hammered with no call, giving the ball to the other guys, or he gets fouled, and because he is a lousy free throw shooter, we're lucky if he makes one of two, unless we're in the one and one, then we're lucky to get anything. We almost never get two.
And we are horrible defensive rebounders. Good rebounding teams keep scoring because it's a half court game. We're also playing fewer guys, especially with Woodard gone, and that means we're more tired at the end. And we have a team of questionable ball handlers. It makes us vulnerable at the end when the other guys know exactly how much pressure to apply dependent on what the scoring margin might be.
The interesting thing is that I'm not sure that's going to improve as much as it needs to. We'll see how a five star point guard helps to solve that. But what we really need is a couple of really good big men, who can defend the basket.
