Can it really be considered much of an upset? They had the same conference record coming into the game.

We had played a significantly harder schedule to get to that 3-6 record than they had.
Sadly, that was probably the final nail in the coffin of a three-peat. It sucks for the guys, but as far as the program goes, I think we'll be ok. It's not like we are getting blown out in each game. We are right on the cusp, but are just one guy short or one piece of luck short. If Ty Berry starts the season at full strength, maybe we come out firing. If Brooks hasn't been battling injuries all year, maybe this team wins a few of those nail biters. That's true for any team of course, but this group is too close to the edge to have these things go wrong. We are not yet at the level of an annual tournament team, but the program is as strong as ever. It doesn't feel like the teams after the first NCAA run. This program is reloading.
Unless we hit a couple home runs in the portal, it’ll be a rebuilding year next year. That’s expected and Gelo and KJ should be much better next year. We have a giant hole at 5 right now and it should be priority in the portal.
Not a ton production in the Junior-Sophmore classes outside of Martinelli. Not getting a ton of production out of that sophomore class is hurting NU right now. Ultimatum is coming back to bite the program yet again.
Future is still bright on paper with the freshman class and Gelo/KJ. Just a couple seasons away potentially. Going to be a young developing team without transfers and/or serious development. Let’s just hope we get some fun competitive basketball the rest of this season. We can worry about next year, next year.
I agree, but I'm excited about the potential of our two current frosh and the incoming class next year. I think we'll play competitive ball next year if Nick sticks around, but come out on the short end in most BIG games again. However, one can see a path forward with this program.
To be a solid tournament team, from wherever it comes from, we have to have a ball-handling penetrating point guard; a three, whether by his skills or the offensive set, doesn't use too many possessions to get their points; and at least one 3-point shooter that hits around 40%.
