Who on here is old enough to remember when there wasn't such a thing? Was drinking beer with a friend all night and was talking about some of the changes in our lifetime. It never existed until 1982 when some idiot decided he was going to take some Tylenol bottles and put cyanide in the capsules and then put them back on the shelf for people to buy. 7 people in Chicago died by taking it. The entire food and drug industry had to change their packaging to prevent it. Before that it was just bottles that you could easily open. Crazy stuff. It almost put Johnson and Johnson out of business.

I get it, but I don't understand why a bottle of cleaner or bleach has a the tamper-proof top.

My fav is the triple layer... comes in a sealed box, top is wrapped in plastic and has a tamper-proof seal under the cap. Your Cascade is safe as houses, Ma'am.

The hell they don't. I literally opened a new bottle of Cascade yesterday afternoon and remarked to my wife that the Cascade was pure b/c of the double wrap. Top was wrapped in cellophane-type plastic, bottle opening was sealed under the cap. If that's not a tamper-resistant, I'm confused.

You have confused tamper resistant with child resistant. Huge difference. You are referring to the design of a container top, not the plastic seals that notify the consumer of tampering before purchase.

You actually took the time to take a picture of a Cascade bottle ? Man, i bet you have all kinds of "neat" pictures on your phone. Probably a bunch of clouds and sunsets, and other interesting things.

When it is someone you have known for 30 years and you drink for 6 hours you have to find something to talk about. I can start a Grateful Dead thread if you would like. That conversation was longer.

That piece of crappy tape they put of CDs and DVDs...

Honestly, in terms of purchases or packaging I cannot think of anything that has aggravated me more over the years.

Damn, I hate those things!

Can almost see this, too. But, I think they put all the tamper-proof stuff allover everything now as a selling point, too. Or, as selling you something you don't even know you need in some cases.

It's all very 'Gluten-free steak' to me. A new 3 cent layer of plastic protection (in the consumer's best interest, of course) harbors all kinds of room for jacking up costs to the consumer.

I remember watching this and it was BIG news. Grainy old resolution store video and they were saying: " there's the checkout line, here's the cashier....but what's the deal w THIS guy" (pointing to some dude just standing there watching ppl check out). It was an effing huge deal.

It amazes me that they never caught the person who was responsible for the Tylenol scare. Such a high profile case, but never an arrest. They even re-opened the investigation in 2007, but still couldn't charge anyone.

Tamper proof packaging is nothing. Try explaining to a 7 yo grandson, I can't open your toy in the car, you'll have to wait till we get home and get a knife and screwdriver!!!

Yeah, I am going to have to go with something much more important than changes in packaging. I was born in the era of the pill and free love (late 60's). Sex on tap and women happy to give it up. By the time I am old enough to partake, Herpes and Aids are big time problems. Now you are risking a lifetime of genital sores or death just to sample a little forbidden fruit. Talk about f-ing up a good thing. Maybe Eddie Murphy covered it best:
