For the 4th straight season Tarboro and Edenton will collide in the playoffs, although this time instead of it being in the regional finals it will be in the second round. Thoughts on this one?

As you well know based on the last three years results I don’t have much to say so I will concentrate on the differences between this year’s team and the previous three. This team is bigger than usual. We are still small but the gap is not as big as it usually is. This year’s team is a better passing team than usual. We are not as explosive but appear to be comfortable with grinding it out which is not a bad thing come playoff time. This team is tougher and will hit you hard. Just over all not quite as high powered.

I saw highlights of the game last night your QB has a cannon of an arm. Edenton also looks bigger than usual, when I think of Edenton I think of speed and quickness this Edenton team looks like a team that can punish you all night long.

I'll go on record and say that this game will be closer than the previous three games. Now of course I could be wrong lol but I don't see Tarboro winning this game in a running clock

This game is going to be GREAT! I can see that but I’ve seen Edenton has been throwing the ball more & that has me worried! Tarboro should come to play & not let it get to there heads that they’ve beat them the last couple of years!

I bet craddock drills that In their head all week long that the last three years don't mean nothing this year is the focus. We gotta put pressure on the QB and collapse the pocket. That QB for Edenton has a cannon of an arm man.

Yessir you know Craddock is. Hell they’ve been preparing for Edenton damn near all season. Those coaches have been doing a fine job. Hopefully everything works out

I think the end of the first half against manteo was kind of a statement by Tarboro LOL. I think they've been preparing for Edenton or Princeton all season knowing that it was more than likely going to be us playing one of them teams.

Maybe @benskibob22 can weigh in. He seems to have a good and objective eye

Long and late response, but maybe needed...

Tarboro’s dominance speaks for itself. I don’t know enough about this year’s team to place them anywhere other than at the top of the heap. I know the Tarboro fans here can give a better representation of their team with respect to the last 3 years’ rosters. I’d like to think that this game’s result shouldn’t be the blowout of the last 3 playoff games, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I see three ways this game could play out, two of which aren’t good for Holmes... one is a close win for Holmes, one is a close win for Tarboro, and the third option is what has happened the last 3 years.
If this game is indeed a blowout, it will depend on if Tarboro’s DT’s can deny the dive. The dive is the where Holmes’ success begins and the rest of the playbook bears fruit off that. If Tarboro is able to defend the dive with interior defenders, the DEnds will be able to play the read and slow that downhill progress of the mesh and eventually the rest of the triple. So A1 priority is defending the dive. Now playing off that, the dive worked well enough to set up the play action last Friday and Princeton was unable to defend the seam and gave up way too many open TD passes. I don’t see Tarboro giving that up, but that’ll depend on the dive success.
Now defending Tarboro... winning individual battles inside the tackles is of paramount importance because the fakes in the backfield force your defense outside the tackles to stay home and keep assignment football. The T is similar to the triple is the sense that if you overplay, it will burn you sooner than later.
All that to say this, I think Tarboro wins, but maybe by as little as 2 scores, could be as much as 4 scores. I’d hope as an independent of either school, the tighter the game, the better for us fans.

I do want to give a big shout out to Princeton and Coach Gaster, his staff, and their team. They look like they are trying to jump into the next group up where Holmes and Tarboro are currently at and have been for a while. You can definitely see the progress they have made and have closed a bunch of that gap to reaching the next stage of success in football.

As a Viking fan, I believe this years team is more vulnerable than any in the past decade or so. I also think, as usual, Tarboro and Edenton mirror each other in many ways. AcesWild2323 mentioned that Edenton wasnt as explosive and neither is Tarboro. The Manteo game was different however. The starters never ran more than 2 plays to score...often it was a single play to score. Does that mean THS has turned a corner? I hope so. The thing I am worried about is Edenton's passing game. THS struggles to get consistent pressure on the QB so time is there for the QB to run his progressions and for his receivers to get open. I do not think Edenton will be very successful running, but I think the passing game will even it out. This game really is a toss up. For THS it will depend on how consistently THS can stop the dive and pressure in passing situations...can they make the QB uncomfortable and rushed...and on offense can THS can grind it to control the clock and hit big plays 5 to 10 times. For Edenton, can they score 2 to 3 TDs passing? Can they control our fullbacks on dives and traps? I really cannot say who I think will win. I know who I want to win. Our coaches have said our O-Line and D-line are the strengths of this years team...I sure hope they are right because this game will be won by the line play of both units...Final thought...the number of games played is at about the number when Tarboro starts to click and peak in a normal year. I hope that is true, cause they will need to play their best game of the year to win.

This has been my thought about Holmes all year. Our offense is built on timing and rhythm and that takes time to develop. Have we had enough games and time to develop? Are things starting to fall into place? Who knows?

That is why this matchup is so intriguing. Combine all these unknowns with the fact that this is the last time these teams will meet in the playoffs for the next four years. I look forward to a great game - first game this year that I am excited to watch since SWE.

I wouldn't say we are the most vulnerable however we don't have a pass rush as dominant as in recent years. As far as our offense goes the chess match between our offensive line and their defensive line will be paramount. And we must defend Edenton and their play action pass.

Most vulnerable In the last decade? I’m not sure about that. You must not remember the ‘13-‘15 years teams

Yeah those teams were vulnerable. That was when our senior class imploded and craddock had to take a bold move and pull up 13 sophomores in 2015. 2015 was pretty solid just VERY young.

From an outsider, this Holmes team looks different physically. They should be able to play with Tarboro. The biggest problem is mentally, imo. Will this be the year they finally realize they can play with Tarboro and give them a game? Getting kids (a team) to truly believe is half the battle. If they do it will be a great game, if not another blowout win by the Vikings

Take this for what it’s worth - but when the senior class for both teams played each other on JV as sophomores in 2018 - Tarboro won 58-14.
2 years is a long time when you’re dealing with high schoolers.

11 game was a good one. We had the lead at the half then the ball to start the half and fumbled either the kick off or one of the first plays. Set the aces up pretty good. Something that many forget about that game though is Todd didn’t play much. When we were down late and needed the go ahead score, he came in and delivered
