My granddaughter who will turn 18 wants tattoos. I have two, my wife has none and my son has one. My son is not liking it nor her mom. She came to me, I said don't ask me.

I don't have one, nor the wife. When the daughter approached me on this same subject, I advised her that no I do not endorse. Knowing that she was of age, I then added that if after she did her homework and due diligence on the subject & she decided to go ahead with her desire that she come back to me for help & guidance her. I'm cool like that. This conversation was about a year ago.

No ink.... yet.

Personally do not have one and would not want one on my wife. Cannot imagine a day coming when young ladies wish they had not gotten a tattoo especially for those that have gone overboard. My youngest granddaughter has mentioned wanting to get one and hope she doesn't. JIMHO

I don't have any because I don't want any.
My daughter got one in college - didn't ask my permission or blessing.
My wife later got one on her foot.
I don't see the significance of them.
A butterfly on your foot that will never change, the rest of your life?
I can't believe how popular they are with women.
The women in my life need a haircut more often than I do and can't stand to have it the same way each time.
Can't believe they want a tattoo that never changes.
Maybe that is why some get so many - the change.

PIERCING is the same thing, except for ears. Not a bunch either. I am just an old fashion dude.
I only had three in my left ear... a diamond, a white gold hoop, and a long dangling one that could substitute as a fishing lure in case of emergency... you know, for those mornings when you wake up at the lake hungover with a dead battery...

Why do so many of us want to look like a Starbucks employee with piercings and tattoos ?

I have a small religious tattoo just below my left ankle because, you know, what better way to declare one's faith than stamp it permanently beneath one's sock.

SMH.

The link is to a book written by a very good friend of mine. The target age may be a little younger than your granddaughter but the message applies to everyone. It's only a couple of bucks, delivered electronically. I'd send you my copy if I knew how. I strongly suggest you show it to her. Quick read with illustrations, and good food for thought. All of my 4 are grown and none have opted for, or shown any interest in, tattoos or piercings. For that I am thankful.

Pt Lava, Wow! I hadn't listened to Tattoo You in a while, but that is one damned good record. Digging the hell out of it while watching the MNC.

As for tats, don't have one and not a fan of them on me. I've known and work with many people (all younger than me) who have them and it's not a big deal or makes me think any less of them. My son "snuck" one when he was 18 (on Father's Day no less) and I didn't see it until a couple of months later. He now regrets it because he caved to peer/***** pressure from his then-girlfriend.

Not a fan of piercings and I find gauges nauseating and weird.

The piercings have grown over, never got a tat, just a few bullet holes, scars, and rebuilt knee... oh, with a body like mine, who'd need a tattoo???

I have never wanted one.....even when my army buddies were lined up at the parlor door I didn't want one. My wife does not have one. My brothers and sister do not have tattoos. My parents didn't have them. My 18 year old daughter thinks tattoos are disgusting. What is an artful design at 18 will appear to be a birth defect at 50. I have drank enough beer in my life to float the USS Ronald Reagan but I was never drunk enough to head to a tattoo parlor. Example: a high school buddy had a black/yellow bumble bee tattooed on his "member" in Bangkok R&R from Viet Nam. At 18 it was a bumble bee and 68 its a titsi fly.

Start Me Up..."You make a dead man come". Classic.

PtL can you find me the best (non-foreign) live version of Clapton's Pretending from 24 Nights ?

You all should love this one. I have a nice big tat on my right leg. Used to make those Austin folks really happy to see it. Anyone calling me a bandwagon fan is out of his or her mind. Here you go:
