The in home visit with UK must have been terrible.
I don’t think visit had any bearing on his choice. It seemed to me we always had him as an option, but not our top one. Based on recent recruiting we seem to be prioritizing Rippey, Holt, Stokes, Howard, Baba, and Thompson. On3 has us #2 in Smith Jr. favorites, but I haven’t seen much on him. Granted we seem to move in silence with this staff so that may bode well.

I've seen him play and he's a fine high schooler. Is he special enough to warrant all this attention and money they threw at him? Remains to be seen. I doubt it, personally. He's not a physical freak by any means.

The way Adidas pays their schools and are willing to take high schoolers and help their schools recruit make me wonder if we should have considered a proposal.

This isn’t a (I didn’t want him anyway) thing but I never wanted him as I’ve stated enough times on here. I never liked anything about him not even the way he looks. He don’t look like a UK player. Not sure why Pope even tried. His game isn’t impressive. He could be a problem in a couple years but he’s no Stokes or he’s no Caleb Holt. He won’t be a difference maker. He won’t even be at Kansas by the time he is a difference maker. Kansas Louisville and even Arkansas fit the description just off the way he looks and acts. Pope is to genuine to appeal to this type of kid. I don’t know him other than the videos I seen but he didn’t look like a match for UK in any way to me. Maybe that’s a simple minded way of thinking but it’s like an intuition I’ve had about him the whole time and not just because he didn’t commit to us.

I don’t want any freshman committs unless they are difference makers day one like Stokes. I’ll be disappointed when he committs elsewhere. Pope needs grown men. Not self centered low character kids. Just my two cents.

I have to agree. I’m happy he chose Kansas, and I would have been happy if he committed to UL as well. He’s a kid who wants to be the man but isn’t good enough to be the man. I think Pope gave a token effort because he’s a Kentucky kid, but I honestly don’t think Pope wanted him either.

Pope shouldn't make a habit of being late for interviews with recruits. Just like applying a job, punctuality does matter and does say a lot about you. It would tell me that I'm not that high of a priority if a potential coach shows up 30 min late to my house, and then you have other coaches waiting outside to get in.

I'm not going to say that this is the single reason why he chose Kansas, but he sure did dropped Kentucky a few pegs.

Why is he low character? What do you know about him to call him low character? Just cause he didn't come here, doesn't mean he is a bad person. If it's because he was chasing the dollar bills, then 95% of the players are low character.

I don't even care. I just as soon we never take a true freshman unless it's an Anthony Davis type player. Pope will get us a 22 year old who will play right away

think pope recruits him hard mainly because he is "in-state" kid, Pope has special feeling toward in-state prospect.

If kinney is not Kentucky kid, Pope may not even offer.

You can see huge difference between Kinney and Moreno/Jasper in personality

He is always a "look at me" guy...

You can see other high talented and ranked guys coming here, JQ, Jasper,Moreno, Hawthorne, you can see their humility, and unselfishness

I won't say I didn't want him, but I also don't think he's a game changer. He reminds me more of Skyy Clark than he does of a big-time 1D player. He does most things well but nothing excellent.

Dont need him. Not sure more than 4 or 5 freshmen are even worth it in this era. Wouldn't break my heart if we didn't recruit any freshmen and just stayed with portal.
