He is always a "look at me" guy...

You can see other high talented and ranked guys coming here, JQ, Jasper,Moreno, Hawthorne, you can see their humility, and unselfishness

So you're saying no one that has played at UK recently is not a 'look at me' guy? Most studs in sports have an ego. There is nothing wrong with having a healthy ego if you're rated #1 at your position. I want a player to feel like they are that dude. That still does not make him low character. Low character is someone that cheats, lies, steals, or some other horrible things. We've had a lot of big ego guys at UK and they are much beloved.

I’ve never been high on TK as many here are, I think he will be a bust and have a rough career, where he bounces around to a few different teams. I get Devin Askew vibes from him. I’ve been wrong in the past but I definitely wish him the worst from this point forward. I do find it funny that the midget down the road called UL point guard U, only to get spurned by him. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have to agree. I’m happy he chose Kansas, and I would have been happy if he committed to UL as well. He’s a kid who wants to be the man but isn’t good enough to be the man. I think Pope gave a token effort because he’s a Kentucky kid, but I honestly don’t think Pope wanted him either.
Who knows maybe Pope acted a fool at the visit because he has his pick already and didn’t want it to be a (Kentucky didn’t even try to recruit me thing.) I believe we will see Pope go head first after who he truly wants and that is the Rippey kid imo.

I love having cocky/confident players. I like when they are on our team. I just feel he’s overrated and not that guy. He could prove me wrong tho I reckon.

This is not the Cal era.

Mark Pope has his own model.

I don't think he will handle a "look-at-me" guy. You can see from the players he has successfully recruited that none of them are “look-at-me” types. High confidence is good, see previous players like Oweh, Dilly, but Kinney and Celeb Wilson are different, they’re “drama queens,” which is another thing entirely.

“Look-at-me” guys and Mark Pope are not a good fit for each other. This type of player also does not interested in Mark Pope's philosophy.

Kinney is good player though, just not good fit for Pope. He fits the culture of Kansas better

Don’t confuse high confidence with a big ego or being a drama queen.

Why is he low character? What do you know about him to call him low character? Just cause he didn't come here, doesn't mean he is a bad person. If it's because he was chasing the dollar bills, then 95% of the players are low character.
Which shows why he thinks UK fans suck.

Kansas is going to get their share now that schools can just pay players. I think Bill Self is going to flame out there just like Cal did here. Their fans are acting just like we did.

Based on his comments, it seems he wants the keys to a team so he can showcase for the next NBA. Doubt we could or would commit to that.
Yeah, but didn’t this epitomize every Calipari recruit during his time at UK?

This isn’t a (I didn’t want him anyway) thing but I never wanted him as I’ve stated enough times on here. I never liked anything about him not even the way he looks. He don’t look like a UK player. Not sure why Pope even tried. His game isn’t impressive. He could be a problem in a couple years but he’s no Stokes or he’s no Caleb Holt. He won’t be a difference maker. He won’t even be at Kansas by the time he is a difference maker. Kansas Louisville and even Arkansas fit the description just off the way he looks and acts. Pope is to genuine to appeal to this type of kid. I don’t know him other than the videos I seen but he didn’t look like a match for UK in any way to me. Maybe that’s a simple minded way of thinking but it’s like an intuition I’ve had about him the whole time and not just because he didn’t commit to us.

I don’t want any freshman committs unless they are difference makers day one like Stokes. I’ll be disappointed when he committs elsewhere. Pope needs grown men. Not self centered low character kids. Just my two cents.
Just say Kentucky will move on from him and hopefully get someone better. Also suggest you read the definition of low character.

Pope shouldn't make a habit of being late for interviews with recruits. Just like applying a job, punctuality does matter and does say a lot about you. It would tell me that I'm not that high of a priority if a potential coach shows up 30 min late to my house, and then you have other coaches waiting outside to get in.

I'm not going to say that this is the single reason why he chose Kansas, but he sure did dropped Kentucky a few pegs.

I think Jalen Lowe has another year after this season, so that may be part of his decision.

I would much rather have Rippey or a portal player anyways...

Well Pope should've never recruited him and offered a scholly. If he came here, you'd be celebrating. Don't be hypocritical. Pope obviously thought he could help the team or he would've never bothered.

Maybe Kinney went to KU for the bigger check or maybe he didn't want to take the chance to play behind Lowe if he stayed. That's all fine and well. You win some, you lose some. Just cause a dude doesn't come here doesn't make him low-character. You know nothing about him personally. Just let it go. Pope will move on and probably do better.

Meh. I used to be one of the biggest OAD/Freshman proponents but I have done almost a complete 180 on the topic. With freshman being able to transfer at all now, I don't see a lot of value throwing a dart at the recruiting rankings, and hoping you get one who is 1. great for his freshman season and 2. one who stays an extra year or two.

Top5 recruits are one thing.. But even they aren't guarantees. I'd be fine if we add one or two freshman a year, and just hit the portal at years end. Build a team of experienced players, who might not have the potential of the freshman, but are likely going to offer much more on a singular season of college basketball. Honestly, I would even find ways to check in with current freshman, especially the ones that turned out to be decent, and let them know they can always transfer to Kentucky for the following season.

I'd build this entire thing away from trying to make 17/18-year old freshman work.

After the last 10 years of Cal I can’t wrap my brain around giving even 1/10th of a **** about a freshman. Butler, when healthy last year, was better than 85% of our one and done PGs. It’s comical how much worse freshmen are in the transfer portal era. Houston played Florida for the title last year - two teams built on ZERO freshmen.

It just doesn't seem to work as well in this NIL era. 10 years ago, sure.. I was fine with loading up on young talent, because you couldn't rely on the transfer portal at all. It's funny to think, but there was a time when it was rare. And even if you got a transfer, they had to sit a year. But in today's landscape, a premier school like Kentucky can literally go shopping at the end of the year, and take their pick of over 2,000 players, of all sizes, types, and abilities, but they'd all have experience, and be more developed.

Didn’t want to be the 2nd-3rd option at PG next season. It’s not rocket chemistry 😂

But I thought Kelsey said UofL was Point Guard U. Why would the #1 point guard in the 26 class not go to Point Guard U? :ROFLMAO: I really don't care that he chose Kansas, he was an adidas kid and despite being a KY kid I never really considered him someone we would land due to him wanting the keys to the program from the get go. But for UofL to miss out, with Brown Jr probably a lottery pick and out the door after the season, it's hilarious they missed out on him. And another miss for Cal for those counting.

You can always find supposed exceptions to most anything, but in general if you want to chase a championship - which, until Calipari, I assumed was every UK coaches' #1 goal - then freshmen are at best complimentary pieces. And I mean all of them, whether five-star, top ranked, etc. Regardless of what they eventually develop into, the old cliche that "best thing about freshmen is they become sophomores" is and always has been true. And NOW you can often get those more ready to contribute or even lead sophomores via the transfer portal after some other "sucker" has paid for the freshman developmental year. I'm hopeful that with Pope - who does have his #1 goal being chasing a title - that UK never "tosses the keys" to a high school kid. It is a completely unnecessary gamble for a top program that has coaches that can identify multi-year high school program builders and compete at the highest level in the transfer portal.
