No. He was THE drummer.
No cause of death mentioned, and he was on tour and promoting their new film. Makes me think this was sudden/unexpected, so no terminal disease or anything. He looked frail at the RRHOF induction and did mention that he likely wouldn’t be alive if not for Foo Fighters. Huge loss though. RIP.
Reports indicate he passed away hours before a scheduled show at a festival in Bogota, Colombia. The band was to play the next day at Lollapalooza Brasíl.

He did. I hope it wasn’t a relapse or a “just one more time” type use, or any other drug use. With his heavy drug use over the years, even if he was clean now the damage may already have been done and possibly took years off his life. So sad as he was so full of life and energy.
Terrible. He played a big role in the documentary, replacing the original drummer. He and Dave were simpatico on what a drummer must bring to a rock and roll band. These boys are very close, it’s gonna leave a big hole

I’d disagree; Dave continues to moonlight as a studio drummer for his pals when called upon (Trent Reznor, QOTSA, Tenacious D) but I’ve never seen him do guest guitar work. Not to say he’s not an excellent guitarist, but he’s an all time drummer IMO.

Hawkins was a great drummer, but Grohl is definitely a very good drummer (and a better drummer than he is a guitar player). Grohl puts 110% into everything he does on stage, and in life --- he is a very interesting and intelligent man.

Thanks Tom, good stuff! Taylor and current Yes singer Jon Davison grew up together. Jon has performed a few times with Foo Fighters. I like the line here when Dave said they tried to learn a Yes song, but they're too f*cking hard.
My personal experience with addiction issues: it's a beast that must constantly be attended too. The minute you think you have it beat, it jumps up and kicks your ***.
