King is probably K's most glaring miss I can think of, just not good for us. Glad to hear his life could be heading in the right direction, it's never good when people take the path he did. I hope his life will find some light.

Good read....thanks for sharing.

I disagree that K 'missed' on him, or that it's glaring. Even after seeing what he saw, I don't think Jay Wright 'missed' on him either. King was just an idiot at the time and acknowledged as much in that article. I don't think K and Wright should be penalized for a guy's demons.

Good for, Taylor. We are all young at and make mistakes some time in our lives. True intelligence is the ability to learn from your mistakes and make the necessary changes for a successful life and become a better person for it.Great job, Taylor. Proud of you man.

It was a miss by K. He pursed the kid and brought him into the program. No, he's not "penalized" for doing so either, the end result is pretty much a comment saying K missed and it didn't work out, no real foul. Not much of any penalty at all. I acknowledge it was fully his fault, but it's also our staff's responsibility to know who the kids coming into the program are.

I get the "predicting 16-18 year olds" game and how it works, but on the other side of the coin, K is paid a nice chunk of change to vett these guys and figure it out. To say that King is the most "glaring miss" is a good look for a guy who's been at Duke for 35 straight years. Even Babe Ruth struck out once in a while.

Just curious.... Do you think K missed on Rasheed Sulaimon as well?

Agreed. He was one of the most heavily pursued kids in the country and to my recollection didn't have any glaring red flags right? That's not on the coaches.

Nope but that along with my King comments are just my personal opinion.
Sure I understand its just your own perspective Crazy, and I thought the "Babe Ruth" analogy was quite well stated...K's record obviously, unbelievable in recognizing who to pursue for Duke since 1980-'81....Proof in the pudding!!!

Personally I tend to think of Gbinije as more of a miss. I know some will say "oh there was not available PT," whatever...I merely wish we could have recognized the kid's upside more when he was a Blue Devil....

All the best to Taylor btw....
