Dude gave us three years and got his degree; no need for a parting shot. I wish him well. Not his fault we don't use the tight end.

Dallas...if that was meant for me, I was being sincere in that he has graduated. I can't imagine the work load of being a student athlete and graduating early...pretty special.

83 - I took your post as complimentary and had to re-read mine to be sure there wasn't something that was mis-construed.
Looks like we are all on the same page.
Best of luck to TM.

I know we don't use the TE much, but McNamara hardly even got on the field. My guess is that he simply was strong enough to be an effective blocker in our offense. Coming out of HS I really thought he was going to be a good one.

Sorry, I took this.. "Only one pass reception in three years? Sounds like USC can use him." as a shot at him. Probably just me in a bad mood this morning.

Your right, it does look like they can use him. He's found a good opportunity. Good Luck.

Unless a kid was brought up as a big Sooner fan, there wasn't much of a reason for a quality TE to sign with OU for the past several years. It always made me wonder what the heck kind of sales pitch were the coaches throwing out there to 4* receiving TE's like McNamara. There have been others as well. Good luck, Taylor.

I think at the time McNamara signed we were going away from spread and more into a power running game and i'm sure they tried to sell tight ends they would be run blocking and getting more opportunities. And who knows? Blake Bell doesn't make the move to TE this year McNamara may have gotten his chance just didn't work out.

Will also be interesting to see how some of these big receivers we have on campus 6'6" guys like Mead do in the new system or if it's going to be more suited to the quick shifty guys.

I can see it now.
Two different trains of thought:

I would have bet a month's pay he had more than 1 catch in three years. I was shocked.
He has only played in 11 games in his three years. I would have lost that bet, too.

USC has a walk-on getting most of their reps in spring. They can use a TE with some experience.
Even if it is only 11 games.

All is good.

Best of luck to the kid. Wish he would have stuck around one more year to see if Riley could have given him a great season in 2015.

McNamara caught a clutch pass for a first down in the Alabama game and he ran a deeper route into the end zone to occupy two OSU defenders when OU did its fake field goal in the 2013 game at Stillwater. This allowed Hunnicutt to have room to get into the end zone on his reception.
I won't be surprised if he contributes well at USC. I did not like him leaving OU, but if he sits on the bench, who can blame him ?
I wonder now if OU will ever have a pure tight end in the way it did with Hanna, Gresham, Smith and Finley earlier in the Stoops' era. Looks like the position will be more of an H-Back/TE alignment with Flowers and newcomer Dalton Wood lining up occasionally at TE.
The two tight ends on the roster are Ijalana, who has been moved to DE and Connor Knight who has been just a special teams player so far.

I don't blame him for leaving, but am glad that he was able to get his degree from OU. Sounds like he would get plenty of playing time next season considering the lack of depth at TE, but he would be used almost exclusively as a blocking TE instead of a pass-catching TE. I would have thought with the new OC coming in, that we might use the TE more in the passing game. Maybe not since McNamara's leaving. I wish him the best at USC.

I think he was ready to see the field last year but a certain former QB took his playing time. Then a certain coach pissed him off. I hope he does well at USC and wish him the best.

WNAS, do you think that Bell may have been given the position over McNamara simply for Blake's "taking one for the team position move"? No one will ever know, but I have considered that could have been the case because I think Bob is more loyal to certain players, which isn't a bad thing. Bell played well enough that, in my opinion, McNamara couldn't have made much of a difference because even with Blake at TE, Josh didn't use the position much. If Blake had of stayed at QB, I think McNamara would have seen a lot more of the field in 2014 and wouldn't have transferred. Just my opinion.
