165 and State College.
I hate to say this about any middle/upperweight HS FR, lest the hype machine run out of control: he has a decent chance of winning states this year.

PA AAA is paper thin in the middle weights this year. Among all AAA wrestlers who competed from 139-189 last year, there are no returning state finalists, and only a few who ever finished top 4. And most of those are potential state finalists only because somebody has to be.

Wouldn't even consider that possibility if he were AA -- far more upper-level talent around his weight. Or if he were up to 189 AAA. But he has a chance in AAA 160-172.

As with most yrs in the upper weights, these weights are senior dominant at states. So kind of a silly post.

Feel free to look at last year's brackets and ID this year's AAA finalists at 160-172. Let's be honest -- there are no Ed Ruths in the field who got blocked from the finals by Quentin Wright for 2 years.

And most likely the highest returning placer at his weight will be a JR (Luke Knox).

Maybe a dumb question but just for clarification... is he currently 165 or he's projected at 165 when he gets to college?

Hard to believe any weight in Pa is "paper thin". Guess it's all relative. 😉

Lol, relative.

A lot of the upper-end talent is in AA, especially with McCort and Faith Christian and McDevitt. If there were a AA vs AAA Champ event next March, AA would win it going away -- Sidun, Brown, and Bechtold might be the only AAA winners. Even Dillard might be a 4x AAA champ but be at the same weight Freddy Bachmann.

I can't wait for Terry to drive to Boalsburg to shovel Teag's driveway.

Yeah. I think Miller & Milheim (160 AA Finalists) and Singer & Wentzel (172 AA Finalists) are all back.

In AAA all last years finalists from 152 thru to 189 were seniors.

I think in the late 1970s, Terry Williams of the now defunct Bald Eagle Nittany high school won the 167 pound weight class as a freshman

I said before with a lot of people wondering when Cael will hang it up (sad thing to think about)

I can’t imagine he does so until he has a chance to coach Teag through college, giving us a little while longer :)

I hope you are right. There are definitely people who choose to not coach their own kids so as to not impact their experience. I cannot image the pressure/expectations that will inevitably fall on Teag (especially the better he gets). Cael talks a lot about removing pressure from his athletes. I could see Cael thinking it is best to step back when Teag steps in. Hope not but wouldn’t be shocked.

Nah. By Cael's own admission, Cody, Casey, and now Nick are the real coaches on the team. So Cael wouldn't really have a chance to screw up Teag's wrestling at PSU.

Yeah, but PA doesn’t. Does it really matter what those 2nd rate states use as weight classes?

When did you get so soft, Willie? You should get back to Cope and Bud heavies.
JV States. I heard Flo and Nike are teaming up to name high school all American wrestling teams. You just know they’re going to have a team that feeds the egos of the Midwest Mafia because they don’t want to hurt feelings.

The funniest thing is when Illinois beats its chest about Fargo Greco titles

Here is the preseason All-American team

I think 4 guys headed to OkSt (Raneys, Jax, and Ross), 4 to tOSU (Mills, Singer, Waters, Boyle) and probably a 5th in Ariah Mills. 2 to VaTech in Bassett and Miller. PSU with 1 in Sidun. 3 uncommitted (Ariah Mills, Sammy Sanchez, and Camryn Howard). I like our chances with Sanchez and Howard. tOSU still recruiting well but doing the least with them. Let’s see how this group does. I’m not super high on Antonio Mills. I think Waters is going to be a beast though

Did ASICS ever announce their All American team for the ‘24-‘25 season or do they not do that anymore? That was always the cream of the crop back in the day - being an ASICS All American really meant something!
