When asked about OL for the game he mentioned the opt outs: Dawkins. Rucci, Shelton along with Vega and then addressed those who were expected to play based on prior snaps: Cousins, Shanahan, and Rulli. NO mention of Donkoh. Is he injured? Intentional oversight or forgot to mention him?
Any info out there?

Any one of those opt outs should have deductions from their NIL for clothing, travel,
hotels since arriving in NYC.

Most of this group struggled against a weak UCLA, and three G5 teams, very sad. I
wonder if some former staff or outsiders influenced their decisions.
Definitely agree about this. If you're not injured and opt out then why should you benefit and enjoy NYC on someone else's dime?

NIL has nothing to do with playing in games
And I'm sure the team was well aware before they left for the trip who was and wasn't playing
Great chance for the kids to get some action

As they are all essentially professional they should have to sign contracts which includes playing in the bowl game.
This. NIL is functionally pay for play (even if in principle it is not). I would like to see it written into such agreements that the player would need to be available to play in all games unless injured - which actually makes sense in spirit since if your name/likeness is being used for advertising wouldn’t the paying organization want to have you have maximal exposure via playing?

I realize it would require NIL collectives to all largely use the same verbiage but it would be a sensible change.

a player could still be welcome to opt out but they should be forfeiting money to do so.

I don't want any of them playing in the bowl game. This game is about seeing all the younger guys who are returning next season. Why do we care about guys who don't want to play and will not be on the team any more?
It's not like they opted out of a playoff game. Besides they are not that good anyway. Underperformed all season. I don't know if they made the trip. I hope not. They are off the team in my mind. Let's see how the young guys do, that's our future.

I would be very surprised if Rucci, Dawkins, or Shelton ever play a down of pro football, that's just the reality IMHO. Maybe in the exhibition season before they are cut.
I do, however, wish them well and thank them for the contributions.
Not gonna dip to the level of throwing mud at those kids after the time they put in. They obviously made a decision they think is best for them and I respect that. The way college football works in 2025!

Then players are just going to find NIL deals that don't have that requirement. Not everyone is going to require that.

Yes, good opportunity for those playing but why reward opt outs with a trip while contributing nothing to the effort on the field?
Just for the record, I'm not opposing opt outs for non-CFP games, simply saying if they're done playing then move on.

There needs to be some forfeiture for opting out.

For everything they did throughout the year and in their careers?
I'd have no problem not taking them but that's a team decision IMO
I do believe the players don't care at all when other guys opt out.

Certainly a team decision. Just offering how I believe it should be handled.

Tonight on Channel 4 news in Pittsburgh they announced that Penn State has 17 opt outs. Sounds like more than we were led to believe.

Once there is collective bargaining and television revenue sharing, players will have to play in the postseason unless injured. That is the silver lining in all this. Just have to wait a little more. NIL will go away. True endorsement deals will be permitted and regulated.

And let me guess, all 17 are in NYC “supporting” their teammates and enjoying a free trip.
Yet somehow the fans turn out to be the bad guys because they have a right to quit on
their fans and team mates.
Shame on us for thinking they don't have a right ( if they actually did )
to any freebies and bling from a bowl game they won't participate in.

Don't loop all the fans in with the boo-ers, although most fans know who the
boos were directed at.Like it on not they are pro athletes now.

The effort even before the Oregon game was
pathetic, against teams they should have steamrolled.

some of them got an education- but "free"? I doubt that many here worked as hard
Most athletes work harder than football players…they play multiple games per week and travel a lot more and their seasons are longer. Many of them get very little in terms of scholarship money. And how about students who also work part time or even full time jobs while going to college with no scholarship money? Nobody is forcing these guys to play football.

Nobody is forcing fans to watch it, either. What we have today is what fans asked for- bigger, winning above anything. The values we used to admire are long gone.

Fan demand created this mess, don't blame players or coaches for doing what they think is best for them. It all stinks to high heaven, but we created it.

Fans didn’t create it, the players wanted more. Fans have always been crazy about college football and basketball. The players complained about not being able to afford to buy food on a date, so they got a stipend, but that wasn’t enough for them. Then they wanted to change schools every time they didn’t get enough playing time. The players and the courts are ruining the sport, not the fans.
