Terry Smith's presser was moving and made me proud of what Penn State produces.

I'm all in for Terry. No doubt in my mind that he can recruit and lead by words and deeds.

Yeah, I am starting to like Terry more and more as the next coach but I can understand people's hesitancy because he has never been a head coach at this level. However, if they get rid of Franklin people and allow Terry to bring in who he needs moving forward I am willing to give him a chance. I don't see any home run hires that will allow PSU to compete for Natty next year. It is going to take time to recover from this season's adversity.

I wonder if Terry Smith and Franklin ever had major verbal disagreements over the performance and direction of the football team. It's evident that Terry really cares about PSU football

Coach Smith is a throwback, his simple joy and passion reflects a bygone time. The first thing I ever read about Coach Paterno was in Sports Illustrated, "The Idea Is To Have Some Fun, So Who Needs To Be Number One?" Same vibe here. You can learn a lot from failure, from disappoint. It's not going to be the end of the world if you don't allow it to be.

I am too. I saw the PSU team compete with heart and passion the last couple of weeks...something that seemed to be lacking in Franklin's last 2 games.

I like that we are finally taking some shots downfield
I like that we are pounding the ball in the 4th quarter

Has it been perfect under Terry? No....but much improved. Saturday will be a big test and will ultimately determine whether he should be considered for the job. I say, if the team continues to improve and wins out, give him a shot.

I think he might have a really good shot at the job but I want him to can Knowles and AK as soon as he gets named HC

Seeing as he once worked under Ruhl at Temple, I would appreciate it if come Saturday evening he sent a loud message to Krafty.

This is why decisions aren't made using emotion. Terry isn't a top 50 candidate for this role.

he's a great guy. If we'd have lost zero recruits through this process, I'd say he has a chance. But given the current situation, I don' see anyway it works out.

I’m sure Smith himself knows he won’t be PSUHFCTS next year.

I guess you were not all in on actually winning top 5 games and a NC.

For franklin the fans complained about ugly wins. For terry it is success with honor bs and lets be happy losing close games.

This is a lot like Cael Sanderson's philosophy.

j'Juan Seider did for sure. Note how ND running backs picked it up this year. The PSU backs, not so much

I'm an a-hole for thinking being moved by a Football Coach's press conference is a bit extreme. This says so much more about you than it does me.
It’s been the most disappointing PSU football season since Paterno’s Dark Years. Yet we’re still here in fellowship, trying to find a silver lining. You could have read the room and let things alone. You instead decided to give us a lecture about priorities.

Anyone could make the point that my posting on a mediocre CFB team’s message board at 8:10 in the morning shows that my priorities are out of kilter but, hey, I’ll muddle through.

This is my only social media. God help me, this is my community, suits me just fine, thanks for asking.

You and me both! (well, full disclosure that I do have a MySpace page that I haven't posted on for 20 years...my wife jokes that it me and Tom from Myspace left on that site).

I can see how someone could get emotional watching a man that's pouring everything he has into something and is speaking about living out his dream (and nightmare all at the same time). It says nothing whatsoever bad about someone.

"When people say to me how do you get through life or each day, it’s the same thing. To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special." - Jim Valvano

The way you said it made it sound like people were being moved by the coach touting great stats for explosive plays and sacks. And it wasn’t that at all. It was about the “raw expression” as stated earlier.

Who cares if the context happened to be a coach’s press conference, or a commencement speech, or the delivering of wedding vows? It was about the character of the man being reflected in what Coach Smith had to say — and if people find that moving, it’s not your place to tell them to realign their life. Yeah, doing so is going to make people think less of you.

Great because being moved by a coaches PC is sad. And guess what Every other school in America produces men just like Terry. It also produces people nowhere close to his character. And if people think less of me for speaking the truth, that again says a lot more about them then me. Thanks for proving my point.

Let me ask you, what does doubling down on your “I’m speaking the truth” response to harmless football message board attaboys say about your own priorities in life?
