The new 7.3 gas ford , I believe I found my new welding rig . I test drove all three engines in the 1ton, the 6.7 power stroke is truly a beast , but at 10,000$ more & maintenance being so high I just dont need it .I currently have a '14 f250 with the 6.2 & at 200,000 + it's been a very reliable truck & pulls my camper just fine . In the test drive, according to the dash the 7.3 was getting the best mpg & had more than enough power , just nervous about a 1st gen engine.

I’d be nervous for a Ford, in general. I’ll never own one of those fvcking things again.

2019s were rated much more highly than previous models--especially the 2016.
They’re always rated really well. I’ve just never had good experiences with them. They’re kind of chincy in my opinion. Little corners cut here and there that I just don’t like.

In the full size truck category, I personally rank them: 1. Chevy, 2. Dodge, 3. Nissan 4. Ford

Chevrolet is a grocery go get'er & we call dodge the pipeline flower...you can bet you'll see one broke down on the right of way ...the drty max & allison transmission is a good match...very dependable, it's the stump grabbers Chevy has hanging below the frame

My chevys have been great. I’ve buried them in some holes and found a way out. Drug some jeeps around on a mountain as well.

I bought one in '02 & it was a electrical nightmare, that was my first & last . I have a lot of pipeline buddies who swear by them & we have a lot of fun talking crap , but we all pick on the dodge guys ...the 6.2 gasser Chevy has out is stout unit .

my Duramax doesn't require additional significant maintenance other than a large fuel filter change, which I do myself. Naturally, because it is a diesel, there are a few unique maintenance requirements but the payoff, for me in towing alone, justifies it. 75K miles and motoring well. I don't think you would go wrong with Ford's powerstroke either.

Maintenance in general is way higher on them are a lot higher , my machine and custom bed only weighs 5,000 & my camper is about 8,000 & I only pull the camper 3 times year , I cant justify the extra sticker cost & maintenance....but after test driving that 6.7 my man card says get it now ..lol....
A lot of us running the pipeline system is going back to gas driveline because of the expense, if I pulled 15,000lbs all the time I would get one

He works on pipelines. Pipeline welders need a new truck for status.
Wouldn't a fancier koozie accomplish that?

By all means please do ....no I dont at this moment, my rig has 200,000 plus on it & I make 1 to 2 trips to NJ a month & I use my truck daily, it has a lot of idle hrs on the engine, routine maintenance has been done methodically, but I'm thinking of finding what I want & looking for a decent deal before I have to purchase one in a hurry, my truck is my paycheck if it goes down I have to rent one & get my machine put in it ...a pain

There's something to be said for shopping for it before you need it. Nothing worse than car shopping out of necessity.

I suspect we all have at one time or another. It's no fun, at least not to me. Car buying isn't a fun hobby for me to begin with though.
I feel the same way. I had both my cars go down the same month around 2009. I was planning to buy a car for my wife but losing both put it all in crisis mode. I had to find the best car I could for 10k so I could get my wife what she wanted. It all worked out but it was a pain in the ***.

I normally start looking for a new truck at 200,000 miles ...my last truck went another 126,000 before I actually purchased one
Meh. Vehicles are better theses days. You haven't experienced in declining functionality, why rush to buy something now?. Is it just going to **** out one day? Seems unlikely, to me. Keep money in a truck fund, earning a whopping 1%, until it's needed would be my call. Slow play a couple of dealers. Once you buy, don't go cheap. Your truck is your job. Guesstimating your age, you should make the next purchase the last "my truck is my job" type of purchase.

Do you get reimbursed any for using your truck at work?

I'm in no rush just sorta beating the bush , I'm to young for it to be my last , I'm 48 , I get one this year get 5, 6 years out of it maybe more than the next one will be the last ...yes I get paid hourly for my equipment machine, truck & tools ...it more than pays for the truck , but I enjoy putting that in the bank

how much is "way higher"?

I had several gasser trucks in the past and comparing them to my duramax the only maintenance difference is the fuel filter, diesel, and DEF (if one considers this maintenance, but it is an additional cost).

Honestly, have someone perform a compression test on your gasser and if within spec, continue to drive what you have. You'd get another 100k or more if the compression test is normal. Not sure if compression tests are still done by a mechanic (shows my age).

60 for routine oil change in a gasser compared to 100 for diesel & any work done on the diesel is way more .
I believe I could get another 100 thousand easy , they still do compression test .

I guess I am protected from the expense you site because I do the work myself. I just paid $31 (10 qts) for the oil and $8.5 for the AC Delco filter.
