WVU was only loss in Big 12 openers (9-1). Texas and Iowa State lost in 2nd week (8-2). 17-3 not too shabby. Not SEC. But respectable.

Neal Brown used everyone on his 3-deep chart and then some. Terrible opponent but good effort by Mountaineers to not mail in their effort.
#4 Oklahoma out-did WVU, shutting out Western Carolina, 76-0.
Baylor did OK in the whipping department, too, taking down Texas Southern, 66-7.
#15 Texas failed to live up to its press clippings another season, losing 40-41 to Arkanas.
#9 Iowa State lost to #10 Iowa, 27-17.
TCU beat California, 34-32.
Kansas State survived Southern Illinois, 31-23, thanks to a 4th quarter TD that sealed the victory.
Texas Tech escaped Stephen F. Austin, 28-22, stopping a final scoring attempt by TT’s opponent at the end of the game.
