I think it's only a matter of time until they break out towards the top of the SEC in basketball. I hope not.

They have a new facility, people like that city and being in the SEC, they can attract a top name and not have to settle much longer for Rodney Terry.

Hope not. Seems plausible though

Baylor is a recent national champ, and Texas Tech was runner up to UVA, Houston is always a contender. It's not a football only state. Rick Barnes is the best coach Texas has ever had. Beard had it going until the "incident". Shaka Smart won at VCU and is winning at Marquette, but he couldn't win at Texas. But yes, they are a sleeping giant if they ever get it going.

Doubt they waste good money on basketball when they can throw it into football.

But since they have money to burn, they probably throw some scraps to basketball. Some of those Texans have pocket change in the millions.

I'm starting to come of the opinion you can't be great, even really good, at both. Whatever reason, great coaches can't coexist for long. Oh, you might get a brief overlap. Florida. Bama. But there's a reason the blue bloods are Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, North Carolina and Louisville, Indiana, UConn to lesser degrees.

Notice it at UK. You don't have to choose one or the other. But the football success pulled early season excitement away from basketball, or visa versa. Coaches started squabbling about football/basketball schools and funding. We played a bowl game the exact same time as Kentucky-Louisville and yet UK campus was not burned to the ground.

As long as Rodney Terry is there, they will suck. He's horrible and so is his staff.

If they make another Beard-type hire, they will be a giant. Truthfully, if one or two regent members would bite their tongue they could probably have Beard back. Between Abbott and one or two regents, that's the reason he got ousted.

Didn’t Terry just beat us?

I thought Shaka would do big things but apparently not.

If Texas gets Will Wade I think they will be up there with Alabama and Auburn.

It's weird with Shaka. I'm not 100% sure his "system" translates to success day after day in big boy college basketball.

Agreed on Wade, but if they're going to hire him...ya know, Beard.

Texas is incredibly rich. If money can make it happen then they are a shoe in to dominate the conference.
To dominate, they gotta come through us and they ain't there yet and likely never will be. But I will agree that they have a huge upside over time. They'll be a solid program that can compete in the SEC, year in and year out. But nah...They are not gonna dominate UK long term.

good to think that, but how long has it been since UK won the league title or the SEC tourney title? The days of UK dominating are over, especially with NIL. Some of these other schools can buy titles like Ohio State did, UK does not have that type of $
