He'll do well on the field, but financially he'll be taking a hit via the 2017 NFL draft. I think the guy has an agent whispering in his ear some bad advice.

I heard on sports talk radio in ATL that Joe's on Kiper's top 5 RBs heading into the combine. Did not hear where Samaje is rated. Best of luck to them both and hoping that Joe continues to grow and learn and has no further incidents, of any kind, for the rest of his life!

And let me add, for purely selfish reasons, it really sucks the best RB tandem in the game today is leaving for the NFL. We really could have used at least one of those guys on next year's team to make a serious run at the MNC. But, on the bright side, it should be easier for Gundy to go after blue chip RBs to let them know we need to restock and guys could see some playing time very early in their careers if they come to Norman.

I predict he'll fall no further than the 40th pick.

If he runs well during Pro days, it will be really hard for GMs and coaches to pass him by late first round.

Mixon is a brilliant football player with a very high floor and a very high ceiling.

Some team is going to get a real bargain.

If you haven't seen video of Trey Sermon, you must go to youtube for some highlights. He would be a hard guy to keep off the field even with Perine and Mixon.

Big mistake for Joe to declare. First, he will fall 3-4 rounds because of the video. We are still too close to the NFL blunder with Ray Rice. So if he received a first round grade he will be lucky to go in rounds 3-4. Second, this draft is really deep at RB...maybe the deepest in 10 years. IMO, he should come back to OU for another year and let the video fade for another year and be at the top of a weaker draft class.

If he slips past pick 40, I will be stunned. And some team will have gotten a major steal.

That said, if he stays, playing in this offense behind that line as a feature back, he's probably a top 10 pick. So, still a bad financial move IMHO. Probably will cost him a few mill at least.

I would not be surprised to see Mixon go before Perine. I believe both of them will have very good NFL careers. Good luck to both of these young men, and thanks for being Sooners.

Medic, Sermon went to school about 5 miles from my home in Marietta, GA. I've seen some video on him and looks to be the real deal. Can't wait to see this guy in Crimson and Cream!

He is a great talent and, selfishly, I would love to see him back...

More importantly, I'm afraid he is leaving an environment that would help him navigate the ugly world of human judgment. I think NFL teams will use this situation to low ball him as a draft pick, comp., etc...I'm afraid this will have a negative long term effect on him...

He would have served himself well to stay one more year...

Are you counting on that video to self-destruct over the next 12 months? It is what it is and its not going anywhere - GMs and owners can view that anytime they want, and it would come up in the next draft in every single analysis. But there is no other RB running and catching the ball like Mixon (while splitting time). Given Sooners track record in the NFL (more busts than hits) I'd usually shy away as a GM, but I'd actually take Mixon over Fournette. Put him in the right offense and he could make all-pro his first year.

I also now know why he took the out of bounds after his bigger runs in the Sugar Bowl - he wasn't risking injury (on the flip side, he cut it back inside vs oSu for a long TD - never did that once in the Sugar).

The issue will always be there for him. My point was distance between the actual incident, the release of the video and his draft day would be in his favor with an additional clean year at OU. Always a chance for injury but dropping from the first to third round will cost him greatly. Last year pick 17 signed for 9.8 million with a fully guaranteed contract. The same pick in round three signed for 3.1 million with only $382,000 guaranteed. If he falls to the fourth round same pick he gets 2.3 million.
I know he will not even be on the Ravens draft board. That may not change over a year but could it for other teams that won't take that on right now.

Another clean year away from the incident and the release of the video could do nothing but help him.
