You have been a great coach. We have been with you through thick and thin. It is time to move on. OU needs a younger more vibrant recruiter and coach. OU's recruiting is about average #20 over the last 5 years. That is the problem. You will never win another NC or even get there in the finals. You've lost too many. This program needs to move on for Gods Sake and OU's. OU fans realize this. You are doomed to another 4 more years of mediocrity. The time to change is now. Big game Bob is Not that. He loses Big games.

Maybe we can get Arkansas coach, they took a chance on him and he is like 18-21 in 3 seasons. Maybe we can get Charlie Strong after texass fires him, he is or was an up and comer. Maybe we can get one of sabans assts? Is Lane Kiffin ready to have another go as a HC. Maybe we can get Spurrier to come out of retirement. What about Sumlin? He has been tearing up the sec, what about Jimbo or Mark Richt? Some fans don't realize how good we have it. Yeah we lost a bowl game, yeah we won't win the natty this year but I would bet money on Bob winning another against any new HC winning one anytime soon. See Florida after Urban, See USC after Pete the Cheat left, see texass after Mack and so on and so on. Kicking myself for even answering.

Yes thanks to both Coach Stoops and the new name, Coach Riley for the first Big XII Championship year in this decade I believe. The future looks a heck of a lot brighter than this time last year.

I disagree.

That's an opinion of mine. But here are some facts you may find interesting:

Bear Bryant: was 0-7-1 in Bowl games from 1967-1974. Then won a few more MNCs and was the winningest team of the 1970's overall.

Tom Osborne: was 0-7 in Bowl games from 1987-1993. Then he won 3 MNCs. He also had an overall losing bowl record at 12-13.

Bo Schembechler: was 5-12 all time in Bowl games. Never did win an MNC, but is generally considered one of the all-time greats.

Woody Hayes: went 2-6 in Bowls from 1970-1978.

Vince Dooley: went 4-10-2 in Bowls from 1967-1986. And he actually added his only MNC in the middle of that stretch.

My point? Even the all-time of the all-time greats has significant post-season slumps.

Also, regarding recruiting classes, I do understand your point and it is a bit concerning to me, but you are a bit off in your numbers. Per Rivals, our recruiting classes the last several years have ranked:
2015: #14
2014: #15
2013: #15
2012: #11
2011: #14
2010: # 7
2009: #13
2008: # 6
2007: #14
2006: # 9
2005: # 3
2004: #11
2003: # 4
2002: # 7

So Recruiting has slipped a bit, but not nearly as much as you think. We were never getting annual Top 5 classes. And our run to the playoff this year should be a boost to recruiting. if we perform about the same next year, we can/should keep the recruiting momentum going as well.

Just an example since I live in Arkie. The local media has been acting like the piggies were playing in the National Title game leading up to todays Liberty Bowl, yes Liberty Bowl. They had specials on the news leading up to it most of the pastb2 days, yes the Liberty Bowl. They say their HC is turning the program around yet he has a losing record in 3 seasons and just won the Liberty Bowl, yes Liberty Bowl. He has not won a conference title or even a division title yet they praise him and he just won the Liberty Bowl, yes Liberty Bowl. He has a losing record in conference play yet he just won the Liberty Bowl and they are acting like he just won a Natty. My point is do you want that for OU? To get so down that you take a chance on a HC and get excited about winning the Liberty Bowl after year 3? Give Bob some credit, he may not have as many NC's as Barry or former OU Coaches but it is a different monster nowadays, Not to take anything away from Barry, Bud or Bennie but its a lot tougher now, unless your name is Saban.

Please don't speak for me. This is absolutely absurd and I could not disagree with it more. 1 national title, played for 3 others, 9 conference titles, won every BCS bowl, 2 Heisman trophy winners, made the second college football playoff, 17 years. Pete Carroll, gone, cheated. Jim Tressel, fired. Mack Brown, forced out. Only 2 coaches can make an argument for being better over the past 17 years, Meyer and Saban. 2! So at worst we have had the 3rd best coach over a 17 year period. 17 years! What more do you want? We are not entitled to win a national championship. It's hard. Damn!

I apologize for ranting, but I am so tired of the lack of appreciation for Coach Stoops. It disgusts me.

Well I can relate re: living around the delusional fans. The hawkeyes will be pumping that divisional co-b1g thing for the rest of my life and chalk up the Pasadena meltdown as just another 20 year winter trip to their mecca as a totally expected and accepted thing that is immutable as negative temps in January...

Yep, what better, more revered source than the King himself.

While I certainly don't think Bob needs validation, I thought it was noteworthy that Barry and Bob talked about the football biz once and Barry reminded Bob that he was only 3 of 6 in national title games or games where the title was imminent had OU won.

It's hard to get there, and a virtual miracle if you can win it all. (that part was mine)

Yes and while I do not remember the exact quote Barry said to Bob back when he won the first but it was something like cherish the National Title because its difficult to win every one you play in.

I am encouraged. This thread encourages me a lot.

The OP got put in his place, while he for a moment, united the board. Hand, if everybody here disagrees with you, you really must be really wrong.

Yep, timing is everything, as in, bad time to burn the coach in effigy right after getting us that close to the promised land.

(shakes head, rolls eyes in disbelief)

You have been a terrible fan soonerhand, turn in your fan card you are dismissed! You have not won a game, participated in any practice, donated any money, bought any season tickets or any tickets at all, purchased any Sooner Merchandise or even followed the Sooners all season until they made the 4 team playoffs. OU loses the 1st game you follow all season long and now you comment? You maam are FIRED! Bye bye, so long its been real!

I really don't understand these threads after such a great season. Even after last season's disaster, I think it was more appropriate to call for Bob to make staff changes, rather than Bob being shown the door. But after going 11-2, and making the playoff not sure how anyone can start calling for a regime change. At this point, I say leave things alone and let them build on this season.

I am not now nor ever have called for Stoops to step down. Nevertheless, let's hope the uptick experienced this year means that we are really movers and shakers again. Without the gods fortune of playing teams with backup QBs, we could have easily lost to a couple of teams down the stretch. If we hadn't been fortunate enough to have Mayfield fall from the sky, we would have still been sans quarterback.
Bob made strong staff changes and as a life long OU fan I am hopeful for the future, but I do find the sycophantic BGB worship beyond curious, and the paralyzing fear of life after Bob stupifying. What do you think would happen to OUr program do if Stoops (Bob not Mike) retired?

Unless a big name coach was hired and successful in the OU life after Bob, I think the board would ***** in harmony! Perhaps one of the only times it would!

Well, I'd rather argue with this big board of "idiots" rather than get along with everybody while the likes of John Blake ran our program into the ground.

But we did have Baker Mayfield and we did play teams without their first team Qbs so accept it just as when OU played without it's Heisman QB injured during the first game and our All American tight end's season ending knee injury a few days prior to the first game in 2010. Take the good with the bad luck. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth and don't cry when things don't go your way. It all evens out eventually. It just doesn't seem like it.

Hey, not so hard on JB. We don't want him to leave the board for another six or eight months...

Dear Lord, thank you for all the idiots on this board and for giving me the wisdom to identify them clearly. Present company excluded of course.
