That game was lost…

…in the first quarter. Team was lost/hungover and spotted Duke 21. Basically the same as last year. Obviously some brutal things happened down the stretch, but sleepwalking lack of preparedness out of the gate is what sealed our fate. Another annual loss to Duke! Maddening. I *think* this team can still win 5-6 games.

Here’s the AP game summary from…last year. Sound familiar?

“Duke scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and did all its scoring in the first half, then held off a Northwestern comeback to earn a 30-23 victory in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon.”

Yeah, I agree. The 4th quarter
turnovers were the capper, but when get you massacred like that on defense (especially in the run fits) right out of the gate while simultaneously failing to end solid offensive drives with points, that’s what you get.

It probably shouldn’t have come down to the Hull at the goal line (what was Elko thinking), but it’s nice to see the fight in this team.

And hey, at least JON’s defense is only getting mauled for a quarter instead of an entire half. Baby steps.

Congrats to Elko for getting the customary Duke coaching win over Fitz right out of the gate. What's worse, spotting the new coach 21 points or taking points off the board? Either way, both boxes checked for Duke.

I feel bad for Hull after a phenomenal game. He gets popped by two converging DB’s right before the goal line. Kudos to Duke a learning moment for Hull. Traffic at that point in the field requires ball security. Two hands and arms securing the ball is a must. Obviously they still have to convert to tie and then finish. I fault the D or lack there of for this loss.

That game was pure Fitzball. We start out sluggish and surprised. Then, we start to wake up and play but can't necessarily close the gap. Insert the dreadful post game Fitzisms.

At least there are plenty of high-profile upsets that distract from this train wreck.

... on the line of scrimmage. Duke's lines outplayed our DL and OL. That is by far and away the biggest reason they won the game.

Adam Cushing must've made a difference for Duke....

That's on the coaches.

Simply not acceptable when you had 2 weeks to prepare and unlike other teams, the players don't have to worry about classes, etc. yet.
