The 3 spot

How many threads during the summer and preseason were started about the 3 spot was our biggest weakness. I remeber arguements that lyles was too big to play the three and so on.

When Lyles was out sick we missed him tremendously. It was night and day. cal has called him the X factor which he is. Now today , Donovan came out and said that the three spot with lyles is our biggest strength. Said the is nobody in CBB at the 3 spot that can handle him.

he didn't shoot well today, but

his ability to knock down midrange jumper gives us so much spacing and NBA like offense (at times).

I like our 3 spot when we have Ulis and Andrew and Aaron in the game.

Lyles has worked out fine at the 3, but Booker should honestly be the starting SF. Lyles has had his big games playing the PF spot majority of the time. He has good footwork and touch down low.


His refusal and inability to shoot 3s messes up the spacing, and is part of the reason we get off to slow starts. Today was probably his worst game this season. He'll rebound since he's skilled, i just wish he'd spend the majority of his minutes at the 4 since he can be so effective.

Lyles at the 3 kills the spacing. He's actually starting to see his minutes at the 3 decrease at the season goes along, which i like. Im a fan of Lyles- when he's at the 4. He's our 2nd best post option. At the 3 he settles too much for long 2s & passes up open 3s.

I really don't know why Donovan said that today, considering Lyles had his worst game of the season.

I did chime in before the season. I hated the idea of Poythress playing SF, and it was a massive failure offensively. I still remember the countless threads daily people made worried about our lack of O at the time.
