Does anyone realize how close we were in 1990 to being something special? We lost to Texas by 4 and USC by 5 out of the gate then got on a roll... A real roll. That team easily could've been 11-0. Thee only personnel move where I will always disagree with Joe... Tom Bill was the better QB than Tony Sacca. Bill came in against Alabama, West Virginia, and Maryland and moved the offense. It was stated many times that the first-team players just responded to Bill more than they did Sacca. I would've loved to see those first two games of the season re-played with Bill at QB. Although, I do give Sacca credit for going out to South Bend and beating #1 Notre Dame. He played the best game of his career that day... IMHO.

Did Tom Bill have a drinking problem? For some reason I seem to remember him getting in Joe's doghouse a little over it. If not true, Tom please speak up because I don't want to spread that further if it's not true. BTW, Sacca - you had the field wide open in '91 to run for the first!

Was that the game where Rocket Ismail got beat up and left the game?

Bill missed a game early in the ‘88 season (uva?) due to a drinking issue.

Yes -was an incredible win against the #1 team at their house-but not sure we win if Rocket doesn’t get hurt. As much fun as I ever had post game in the South Bend bars that night......
Fond memories of that game. Watched at home in the basement and could tell you what I did that day and what I ate as a high school sophomore.

Well, OJ McDuffie missed the entire season due to injury, so I guess that offsets the loss of Rocket for half of a game.

Sadly, I missed the entire '90 season. My first year out of college and I worked every Saturday. Ugh, I hated that.

'91 could have been special as well.

But for jet lag against a mediocre USC team and the aforementioned Sacca pick in the end zone when he could have run for the 1st down.

Interesting thing about that play....the Miami player absolutely came out of the end zone then went back in and took a knee. Should have been 2 points and our ball. Not saying there was enough time to mount another drive but....

Ahh. Fond memories from back in the day when we were a powerhouse. Now, not so much. We're more of an 'also ran'. Lower expectations fellas or go find another team to root for.
