The atmosphere at Beaver Stadium

looked amazing on Saturday night. I couldn't tell how flat the crowd went after Oregon took a 14 pt lead but overall it looked absolutely amazing on TV. The only think I saw that was even close on TV this year was the orange and white checkerboard at Tennessee when they played Georgia but the atmosphere at PSU was better.

My personal opinion:
  1. Joe built that
  2. With all due respect to players like Mauti & Zordich who stayed in 2012 it was the fans that saved PSU football. IIRC we were still top 5 in attendance that year and we quickly rebounded to 2nd.
  3. I hope that losing the big games doesn't do too much damage to what PSU has going for it. Showing Haley's scoop and score vs OSU is an awfully old highlight. To be honest it's become a national embarrassment. I'm sure it's enough to flip a few highly rated players to places like Oregon, OSU, & Michigan.
  4. I hope we have a similar crowd vs Indiana because that game could determine it PSU makes the playoffs. The helmet stripe doesn't seem like enough IMO.
  5. A top 2 or 3 fan base in the country deserves better than 0-14.

It wasn't as loud as I experienced in the past but maybe that was due to the west side being a little more open with out the press boxes at the top. However, sill an amazing site and atmosphere. 2nd largest crowd in Beaver Stadium history which was announced in 4th Qtr.

It was very loud in there, great environment.....but Oregon was completely unfazed. They played a great game and drove straight into the student section in OT to tie the game, no problem. If ever the WO was going to make a difference it was then and it seemed to not affect them.

It is still a great environment but I think versus these elite well coached teams these days that know how to prepare, it is no different than playing in a half empty stadium.

Yes, Joe built this incredible environment. Without him we are not getting 111,000 fans to show up an hour before kickoff.

Todd Blackedge indicated that the Oregon OL was using "tap" signals to each other & then one of the OL had a signal to let the QB know they were ready. No verbal communication and it worked very well. I think they only had one false start.

The audio was over the top too loud which is nothing new.

I was wondering what it was like inside. My NBC feed was really bad. The sound was incredibly muted. 🤷‍♂️

False Start on the first drive - when they converted a 4th and short on the play, but then had to punt after the penalty. Not sure if any others

If I never hear that again it will be too soon - hate hate hate it.
That's common at alot of these college stadiums.
Experienced the same when I attended a game @ Ole Miss two weekends ago.
All that unnecessary noise and loud music irritates me and detracts from the atmosphere. Difficult to have a conversation inside the stadium's.
Old man rant done.

Maybe I'm wrong but I always thought of Sweet Caroline as a victory feel good song. I cannot ever remember it being played when Penn State was losing as it was Saturday after PSU finally scored, but were still losing 17-10. Again, maybe I'm wrong.

So I am clearly old school but besides pre game and half time the Blue Band might as well not even be there. With all the extraneous noise and songs through the loudspeaker you cannot hear them or they don't even play. When we score you can't hear them play but that I think is because the crowd is so loud cheering which is a good thing. But once the big roar dies down they should not play all their piped in songs and let The Blue Band belt out the traditional Fight on State and Hail to the Lions. Like the entire time after the extra point until the kickoff (and possibly a little before the extra point). I like their rock song selections during the game for the most part but yearn for more of our traditional fight songs played by the Blue Band.

you are correct on all of that but left one thing out

How Tone Deaf is the actual music person.???? The notion that you have to have it playing at all times when there is no game action going on is just stupid dumb. .... As in we are coming in offense and in the huddle and we are playing music. and sometimes as we even line up?????? In what bizarro universe should at any point when its our turn of possession that music should be playing in loudspeakers? the blue band is the perfect fill for that as they know when to stop.

lol, the reviews of the crowd and the noise and the PA announcer and the songs

#crotchetyoldbittermen #amIlikethat?
As someone who can remember when not all games were televised and there weren't 3 minute television timeouts anytime someone sneezes, I plead guilty. Could today's players handle the days when there weren't TV timeouts and the game was played in a couple of hours?

It was very loud. The crowd never went silent. If anything they got more ticked off. I just watched it and the boos and fire franklin never really came through the tv. lol. But they were very loud on the missed by nbc hold on Sutton.

The Blue Band should become a brass band, ala tOSU.

Looked amazing on TV, but the crowd didn't sound loud (but I'll take the word of the people who attended and glad to hear that). NBC does a terrible job of piping the crowd noise and band in. Other networks capture that better, especially the Blue Band when PSU scores and they play "Fight on State". I don't think I heard that Sat night....maybe I just missed it.

My one complaint about every white out I've attended or watched on TV is the poor lighting in the stadium in the upper level seats in the two end zones. So dark it looks black. They should light that up!

I wasn't sure what was going on with the sound. My NBC feed was horrible and crowd noise was very muted so not sure why. Other networks it seems to be fine. 🤷‍♂️

Was really disappointed in the defense in OT -- people want to point all kinds of fingers at the offense, but let's not forget that the Offense put the defense in fantastic position to win that game after they put up the first TD in OT, but the defense didn't come through. The good news is that PSU's season is far from over - they had the team who is now #2 in the Country on the ropes (again, it was the D that failed to deliver the knockout blow). PSU is right there with the best in the nation - their season is far from over regardless of what the trolls want you to believe.

Actually, the RG was tapping the C when everyone was set; however, Replay clearly showed that the RG was still moving from his tapping motion when the C snapped the ball on Oregon's OT1 TD run - the RG (the last person moving in this signalling system) has to be set himself for a full second before the ball is snapped - he was clearly still moving when the C snapped the ball on the OT1 TD play and was not set for a full 1 count as required by rule. Should have been called "Illegal Procedure" but was not.

The season is close to over. No chance at O$U…good chance to lose to Indiana…would not be surprised to get a fourth loss.

I agree with your overall premise that the D underwhelmed in OT. The offense was so bad for 3 quarters that they have to take blame.

Back to the D, these excuses that we were "gassed" are lame. Like that is an excuse to fold like a cheap tent. The other point is Oregon moved the ball easily on us but missed on two key plays that could have blown the game open. The missed FG and the 4th and 2 or 3. It could have easily been 27-3 to start the 4th and 13-3 at halftime. The D is clearly better than the offense but not an elite D or title contending D. Heck we didn't even touch Moore with very little pressure especially from the interior of the D Line. DDS would have gotten a sack or maybe two but they didn't call holding for some unknown reason.

Concur…He has been in the program 4 years…he is what he his…like a light is suddenly going to come on? Ain’t happening. Kind of depressing. Oh well…just a game. Better get used to it…next year has a good chance to be an unmitigated disaster…expect BGJ to fly the coop before additional damage is done to his reputation.
