I know that this has been an internet rumor for the past few years, but NBC News is reporting a sequel. I'm skeptical, but I don't think the Coens would put their names on a project that's half-assed.

Far out man...

It's amazing to look back now and realize how many big time actors are in that movie. My favorite character in it though, may be the one who isn't an actor at all, singer-songwriter Jimmie Dale Gilmore.

The amazing thing to me (and my shame) is that I didn't get it the first time through. All I saw was the parody of Warner Brothers private eye movies. My wife -- my wife! -- got it and told me it was hilarious. As, of course, it is. But a sequel would be like Hamlet II. Which exists. And which is not good.

Absolutely no reason for a sequel. For what purpose? Love the big labowski, one of my favorite movies, but just like dumb and dumber there is absolutely no reason for a sequel.

Its for real. The Coens are going to direct and Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, and Julianne Moore are returning. Bill Murray will also be in it and will be playing the Dudes estranged brother. Apparently, Maude Lebowski informs the Dude that she and him had a son from their encounter from the first film, and the now 18 year old spawn of two Lebowski's has been kidnapped and it's up to the Dude, Walter, and the Dudes brother to track him down.

Murray is a huge fan of the first film and stated that the script for the second made the Big Lebowski fan in him very happy, so, from a fan standpoint, it sounds like it's going to be pretty good.
