I was holding out hope for a split championship that year - AP for Nebraska and Coaches Poll for PSU. They did split champions as recently as 1990 and 1991, so it wouldn't have been unprecedented. Even now with the expanded playoff, college football can't get their **** together.
No kidding. They split it just 3 years later in '97 but then of course that was Michigan. 🤮

They also did it in 97 when Osborne retired before game. Pity champ. Sure enough big ten media votes for Michigan

I agree with everything razpsu said

"Psu would have won. It was the big ten media and coaches that voted for Nebraska. They were pissed that psu came in their 2nd year and went undefeated, first time in big ten in 25 years and the first team ever to go 12-0"

I would add that we humiliated one of the Big 2 (OSU) and beat the other one at their home. The Big 10 media could not let that go unpunished.

You can add the Pittsburgh media to that and, as well, Beano Cook who lobbied nationally for Nebraska primarily due to his hatred of Penn State.
