I have been watching on Netflix and I'm amazed how, after hours of interrogation, they can get folks to admit to doing things they didn't do. The lesson to be learned is no matter how innocent you are never talk to cops without an attorney present.

This. I haven't watched the new episodes, but I watched the 1st season. All it taught me was to never ever talk to the cops without an attorney. These guys are trained to interrogate you into a confession regardless of whether you are guilty or not. Most detectives are more interested in closing a case than finding the actual culprit.

cooperate but do not say ANYTHING.
blame it on your friend who is an attorney that always told you that. deflects their anger to an invisible third party.
my attorney told me to do this...

If you think you can outsmart them without your atty. present, you've already lost. We just had 2 years of the most intensive investigation in the history of the country, and all the major indictments were the result of perjury traps.

Watched some of the new season. Also reinforced Arkansas is not a place you want to be blamed for a crime

I remember watching that same crime on the ID channel show See No Evil. Of course they painted the story with a different brush. I honestly think that guy was innocent. They had absolutely zero evidence against him. The one witness that said she saw someone in his truck said the person had black hair and the young girl was blonde. The only thing they had was his confession after an 11 hour interrogation and threatening to arrest his daughter for conspiring with him.

Great book, well worth the cost, but I’ll save y’all the $9 bucks — the only words to EVER say to the cops are, “I want a lawyer.”

What if you are innocent and get an attorney who bills you 20k+ to prove you’re innocent are you just out the cash or is there some sort of way to recover that money?

Calling a lawyer to come in while you're being interrogated won't cost near that much unless you call Johnny Cochran (yes I know he's dead).

If you go to trial, a defense would cost that much, but if you're indicted that means the police have evidence so in that case paying 20k for a lawyer would be worth it.

If you are guilty and the police want to talk to you... you need a lawyer.

If you are NOT guilty and the police STILL want to talk you.... you REALLY need a lawyer.

Paraphrasing Steve Romines.

That's the exact thing same thing I was thinking, brother!!

And it holds true...
