Oregon had a good ball club last year. If Vernon Adams is healthy at QB, it would have been completely different. Here is the thing for the Ducks now. If they move on from Helfrich, it will be the first time they look outside the program in a long time. They went Brooks>Belloti>Kelly>Helfrich and now no one is in line. They have a handful of assistants who have been there through all 4 guys. Interesting time for the Ducks.

They have no D what so ever
They used to be able to compensate with a superior offense. They no longer have that. They have never had cocsistent top 15-20 recruiting classes and have won bc of their offensive fire power. Those recruiting classes are showing that unless you have a superior coach and VERY good QB they are an average, at best, team.

Helfrich will be gone this year. They have been slowly sliding the past couple of years and this year the train went off the tracks.

I haven't been big on putting bobby Petrino in every job. But Oregon might be a fit. He's a western guy with stops in Idaho and Utah and Montana.

Chris Petersen is a damn good coach! Stomping Oregon in Autzen Stadium a week after crushing Stanford. Funny how far the ducks have fallen over the last 3 years, but Washington looks to be legit.

If I'm the AD at a powerhouse school like LSU or especially USC, Peterson is my first call when it's time to make a hire. That run he had at Boise, and now has Washington looking damn good. I'd take him over Tom Herman.

I could see him taking the USC job but that's it. He's from Northern California and seems like he's content to stay out west, but nobody can deny his coaching ability. Won the Fiesta Bowl twice at Boise State and in year 3 at Washington has them looking like a playoff contender. Washington had pretty much been a doormat for the last 15 years and was always one of the worst teams in the power 5 conferences.

Good luck prying him away from Udub. It's a power5 school that, believe it or not, takes its football very seriously. The folk up here LOVE husky football and Washington will make it hard to leave should someone come courting.

Ducks had the quack knocked out of them, previously had like a 12 year winning streak vs Washington.

Washington was a sleeping giant....They just needed a great coach. They have a lot of money and a good recruiting base.

And it ate at them like Cal's success over Rick does the birdbrains. I dread going to work tomorrow because it's gonna be about 14 hours of the same conversation. Udub finally putting Oregon under their thumb again.

Don't see him leaving the PNW.

Peterson left Boise for a specific job. His name was tossed around for years (even on this board). I think the number of schools that could attract him are limited.

The SEC ain't all it was once cracked up to be with the playoff. In fact for coaches it probably looks like a bad move at this point. The committee has made it clear only one team from each conference is going to make it. That means you have to beat Alabama to make it from the SEC. If I was a coach at a place like Washington or U of L and I was already getting paid, there is no reason to come to the SEC and coach at some place like LSU where they just fired a national championship coach because he couldn't beat Saban or Auburn where that have fired a nation championship coach and are getting ready to fire a national runner up coach in 5 years time. Nobody can beat Saban except Urban Meyer. No reason to put yourself in that spot. If you really want to get in the SEC Florida is the job to take imo and it will not be open for a couple more years at least.

I doubt the SEC looks like a bad choice. The good jobs are the good jobs. Recruiting to LSU, Auburn, UT, UF, UGA is enhanced by the status of the conference. Good players are attracted to it.
