Because they gave me a pilot's license today!! Always wanted to do it since I was a kid, but never made it a priority.

About 2 years ago I lost a coworker to pancreatic cancer, she was 2 years younger than me. Told my wife that day that I was going to finally get it done. Started on Oct 4 last year and finished it today. Didn't get in any hurry, just wanted to take it at my own pace.

FYI, if any of you are thinking about it, Cynthiana Airport has a flying club and it has to be one of the cheapest places in the country to get your private pilot's license.

I flew a plane once. I went with my friend who was taking pilot lessons at the time. The other guy there that wasn't teaching my friend asked if I wanted to go up so I did. When we got up he asked if I wanted to take over for a few minutes. He took his hands off the wheel and I took over. (I'm quite sure he wasn't lying and that I was really in control and he didn't put the auto pilot on).

I did jump out of a plane once and will be doing it again next spring.

Congrats.

Nice job! When I was in college, I started my pilots license. It was so expensive (on a college salary). I would take money to the horse track to pay for my training lol.

Welcome to the brotherhood.

I’m a FAA sUAS licensed pilot myself. (Please don’t tell the non-Flyboys here what that actually means)

Out of curiosity, what are you planning to do with your pilot's license? Are you going to try to make a career out of it or is it just for fun?

Just for fun. I'm 56, too old to change careers. Just be nice to fly myself and my wife on vacation and go on our schedule. And be nice for little trips to here and there. During my training a common trip was Cynthiana, to Toyota, to the Ark, and back home.

Congratulations. I got my private ticket back in 1988, the day I passed my check ride was one of the greatest days of my life. It's a lot of work, time and money invested. I had been out of flying for many years but just recently got my private ticket renewed in a Tecnam light sport at Sebring in Florida

Those look really nice. I'd be lost on that glass panel though. lol

Once you get your ticket the club wants you to move out of the Cherokee and into the Beech Sundowner we have. Leave the Cherokee to the students. I've got a 3 hour checkout on it scheduled for Friday morning.

I had an older model with analog instruments but the Garmin G3 touch has a conventional mode and displays the 5 primary instruments in digital form if you want that view. It's good for transitioning from analogue to digital

I didn't know you could get them to display a 6 pack, that's a nice option and would definitely make things easier.

You just push a button to go from digital to analog - this is a Dynon but the Garmins do the same thing.
