went to MD yesterday and tested positive for flu. Was put on Tamiflu so hoping this helps. Never had the flu and honestly I’ve never felt this bad. Anyway I’m trying to decide if I should go to Christmas get together and be around others. I hate to miss everything but don’t want to make anybody sick.

If you dislike the folks at the Xmas get together, go.

Wear a mask and limit contact if you feel you have to go, you can talk and watch without hugging everybody. There will always be that relative that wants to prove they love you more than they hate the flu.

Stay home, don't do that to people.

My son had the flu last week, and it's likely because parents send their kids to school while they're still contagious.

Anybody you were going to see this week will more than understand and will actually thank you.

I had the flu last year around New Years and I didn't feel right again for two weeks.

I've had the flu on Christmas.

Lock yourself in a room and stay away from everyone.

On December 22nd I was scheduled to give a guy training. He didn't want to cancel. About an hour into training, I was working with his keyboard and he said, I probably shouldn't be here I have a fever of 103. I spent December 24th, 25th and 26th in bed. And yeah I wish that guy a crappy Christmas too. Dumbass.

Screw it, just go and forever be known in family circles as Influenza Hannibal.

Definitely go ! And if anyone is there that you don’t particularly like make sure to give them an extra hug and a kiss on the cheek.
It’s the gift that keeps on giving !!

If a person had the real deal flu, this wouldn't even be a question. No offense, just saying.
You’re right the test the doc gave me was for the unreal deal flu. Sure hope this placebo Tamiflu prescription works. Guess I won’t be going but I hate to miss it this year. My son was in Iraq last Christmas and he’s home for this one.

Tested positive for the B strain going around 3 weeks ago. Highly contagious, with virulent vomiting and diarrhea! Yeah, baby! I'm still coughing! What fun for Christmas!

I wouldn't wish the flu on anyone. Had it once in 46 years. A guy we knew just had to go out with a few of us when we went to some bars. Ended up spreading it to all of us. I wasn't right again for about a month. That stuff is no joke. Killed like 21 million people in the early 1900's.

Started with a 103 temp with coughing so bad that I had pain from my head all the way down to my stomach. Couldn't eat for about 3 or 4 days. I also didn't get any sleep for about 3 days. There weren't very many good options for the middle of the night for a person to be entertained. I thought I was going to go crazy from lack of sleep and only being able to watch infomercials.

It was about a week before I had to go back to work and about 3 more weeks before I could completely get over it. Unfortunately, we probably spread it around to a number of people at work. I just couldn't afford to go more than a week without pay (our stupid union didn't get us paid sick time). I've never missed getting the flu shot after that and have been free of that crap since.

I always thought the flu was just a cold. People always talking about having the flu but still functioning. In my mind, anyone that would miss work, or change their activities at all due to having the flu was simply a wuss....until I had the flu.
Started feeling bad, like a cold but it got worse. Body ached all over. Went to md, she stuck that test thing in my nose and sure enough it tested positive. Lasted about a week to ten days and was completely out of commission for about half those days.

The flu is bad stuff. Hope you stayed home.

I did stay home. Hated to miss out on Christmas. It’s one of my favorite times. Obviously would’ve been selfish of me to put others at risk. I guess I just needed to hear it from other folks besides my family!

I had flu Christmas of 96. Never felt so sick. Was in high school. Stupid retail job threatened to fire me if I didn’t produce a doctor’s note to cover my absence 12/23 - 12/24. Pops had to take me to urgent care in another county on Christmas Eve. He was heated. Tested positive for flu.

Took my note into the hateful old B that made me go Because she wouldn’t accept it from my parents. I had to bring it in myself. (Later found out no such note was actually required. She was being a jerk because I called out those two days and she thought I just didn’t want to work even though I’d been employed there a year and missed zero days). I coughed all over the note on my way into the store. She ended up being out 8 days.

I remember opening my presents in bed, eating nothing and sleeping 20 hours that Christmas. Didn’t feel right until well after the new year.

Addendum, 2 days after Christmas, and I'm in hospital with issues from past surgeries! So i got the flu, and on a liquid diet to boot!

How many of you all with the flu got your flu shot? I’ve gotten one for the last 10 years or so, and haven’t gotten the flu so I swear by it.

I did get the Swine flu when that was going around. Awful.

Haven’t had it since I started getting flu shots about 8 years ago *knocks on wood* . Had it twice as an adult and I work around little flu factories. Worst feeling ever.

My whole family got the flu shot before Thanksgiving. My son got type B a week before Christmas, so I think it's hit or miss. None of the rest of us have gotten it...yet.

Yeah, it's still worth it for the smaller chance. We get shots every year regardless...just got unlucky this year.

I’ve been getting the flu shot for over 20 years and I’ve never had the flu until this year. I was miserable and still feel sluggish. Sucked missing all the holiday fun with my son.

Damn. It must be a thing. My wife was fine Christmas Eve, wakes up Christmas Day, can't talk or get out of bed. Then my 21 year old son gets it that day. We postponed ours until yesterday. Was a rough 3-4 days. It was really nice out, so we decided to do something different. I went and bought 12 huge Filet Mignon. Spent over $130. Wasted.

I'm at my parents house and my kids are going crazy, so we took them to a playground at a nearby park. As soon as we get there a kid is leaning over the railing of one of the jungle gyms puking his guts out. His dumbsh*t parents are quietly asking him to come down off the equipment, but he won't do it. Just stands there and pukes all over the playground. Finally, the mom gets him to leave. His dad came over and poured some bottled water on the puke and walked away. A little later I see kids running through the puke. Happy New Year.

Your statement has been proven false every year.
Weird. That’s what the doctor said. Flu shots you get are barely effective especially when it’s based on estimates from previous strains.

Never had a flu shot and got it only once in my life.
