I think Pope is getting a 3rd season at least. Mitch won't be here to make the hire as he will step back next summer I assume.
I also think Pope gets a third season. Maybe things start to click when he's got enough older guys with experience in the system, but at this point, it's getting very hard to defend.

Just a wild swing from where we all thought this team would/should be.

He's getting another season for sure. He still has a chance to turn this season around but time us running short. Unless something changes, by January we wont be slotted as a tournament team.

The only caveat is basketball has more donors and they seem way more involved. So a total collapse combined with no recruits could well motivate donors to find the money to end this thing.

As a UK for over 7 decades, I have lived through the ups and downs and without a doubt, we are in one of those down trends right now.
Where else but in America can someone get hired to do a job, have multiple bad performance reviews only to get fired with 30+ million dollars? For all those who think capitalism does not work, become a coach, get fired and get a big fat paycheck.

As a former business owner, I have never in my life witnessed a company spend $22 million on a product only to have it fail right out of the gate and nothing is done about it.
At least own your screw ups and lay out a plan to fix it.

I have read multiple articles from people saying there was a fight in the locker room before the UL game, that this player and that player have issues. I have no clue to any of that but last night while watching the game I watched the UK bench anytime they showed the players. I wanted to see how this Mo kid acted. As someone who coached high school and travel ball, the one thing I always kept an eye one was body language and facial expressions. You could usually tell a lot by watching a kid react to a situation to know what you need to do and when to do it.

Two times last night, once at the 31/2 minute mark there was a timeout and when they showed the UK bench, this Mo kid had a facial expression like someone who was told to go sit outside in the snow naked. He was not cheering or encouraging his teammates at all.
Then later around one minute left, UK took a timeout and again I watched Mo's facial expression and it was not good.
I hope what I saw was a kid who was just pissed that he was not able to help his team out but there is another part of me that thinks different.

Our shooting was just crappy. But again, you can win games when this happens by doing the other parts of the game with the things you can control, your effort.
It was late in the 2nd half, UNC missed a shot and 00 just stood there under the basket watching the rebound bounce around him at arm length. Effort or lack of is what I saw.

As I watch these games against Mich. St, UNC, UL, how do they get these players that contribute to their success that were not a 5 star player but these kids sure play like they are 5 stars.

Like many other aspects of life that have ups and downs, I keep faith and wait for the day the sun shines bright again on my Old Kentucky Home!
But it isn't happening today I am afraid to say.

Thats about the only positive thing ive seen this program do recently. They got the HC hire they actually wanted, and they went with an offensive-minded guy, because thats what works in this era of football.

That gives me hope that maybe the higher ups in this program, the donors, etc can take control and make the right hire after Pope is inevitably gone in a year or so.

It seems some testicular fortitude was found at UK. Lead by former player Jacob Tamme, (your new AD) and Marc Hill. They bagged the best OC in football. With all the former players speaking out. I bet a similar committee is formed to bring in a real coach. Mitch can’t make this hire.
Not saying Tamme wouldn't be nice, but I believe they alluded on KSR that Mark Hill was likely the AD in waiting. Considering he appears to have been a big voice in the Stoops firing and Stein hiring, that may not be bad.

Thats maybe the one positive to our basketball program sucking.. its gonna force Mitch out a heck of a lot quicker if the Pope hire goes south.. and honestly maybe thats what has to happen. Pope is our sacrificial lamb lol.

I've also watched MO very closely in two other games that he didn't play and he was the exact opposite of what you described. PS, the comments that he's mad he can't shoot three's is beyond ignorant. He wouldn't be allowed to be near that bench if he told Pope he wasn't playing because he couldn't shoot 3's. LMAO. Geez.

I have no idea what you're speaking about on shooting 3's but go back and watch the tape from the 4 minute mark let tin the game and his facial expressions were not from someone cheering.
That is on tape for anyone to see.
All the other stuff, is just that to me, stuff but those two moments I watched make me ask is there something going on.
I am a UK fan and do not bash our coach or players on some Internet board, but when all over the place is rumors and such, in addition to what we see on the court leaves open to the questions.
Tell me what we were told over the summer is what we are seeing today on the court?
I am open to having faith in that we have three potential starters sitting on the bench and our best is yet to come.
But none of that changes what we saw on TV last night from this player's facial expressions the last 3-4 minutes of the game.

I will agree and disagree. I dont think we have any real evidence that Mo's pulling something like this. It's all rumors for now.

However, there is also nothing to suggest that if Mo DID say this, that Pope would react a certain way. I'm sorry, but I have seen nothing.. no evidence at all.. to insinuate Pope has control of this team. Would he not allow Mo near the bench if he was griping? Maybe? I'd hope so? But we can't say we know that. And honestly, it sure seems like the players are WAY too lose and nonchalant with Pope at the helm.. a bit too close to the "inmates runinning the prison" sort of situation for my liking.

This is also an opinion/assumption, but I feel safe in making it: a big part of our struggles are simply BECAUSE Pope is too nice and does not have a handle on this team. Say what you want about Cal, but we've never seen this from one of his teams to start a season.. same with Izzo, Self, K, etc. Those coaches are in control and they are the ones dictating how things go. I don't see that with Pope right now.

Maybe Tubby players but Ricks players will not speak out against Pope. Then you have Calipari’s players who do not care enough about UK to give an opinion one way or another

One thing is for sure: Mo isn't saving this team. They win going away last night if they were even "below average" shooting the three instead of "putrid". The defensive intensity was GOOD last night.

Can't shoot, can't win. Been years since we had a team of shooters. Crazy at Kentucky.

Defense wsa good. Offense and rebounding were trash. Against Louisville and MSU. Offense was good, defense was trash. Team is so frustrating.

If Pope returns, expect to fight UNC and Kansas for a new coach the end of next season.

It’s a bad idea, imo.
