As a UK for over 7 decades, I have lived through the ups and downs and without a doubt, we are in one of those down trends right now.
Where else but in America can someone get hired to do a job, have multiple bad performance reviews only to get fired with 30+ million dollars? For all those who think capitalism does not work, become a coach, get fired and get a big fat paycheck.
As a former business owner, I have never in my life witnessed a company spend $22 million on a product only to have it fail right out of the gate and nothing is done about it.
At least own your screw ups and lay out a plan to fix it.
I have read multiple articles from people saying there was a fight in the locker room before the UL game, that this player and that player have issues. I have no clue to any of that but last night while watching the game I watched the UK bench anytime they showed the players. I wanted to see how this Mo kid acted. As someone who coached high school and travel ball, the one thing I always kept an eye one was body language and facial expressions. You could usually tell a lot by watching a kid react to a situation to know what you need to do and when to do it.
Two times last night, once at the 31/2 minute mark there was a timeout and when they showed the UK bench, this Mo kid had a facial expression like someone who was told to go sit outside in the snow naked. He was not cheering or encouraging his teammates at all.
Then later around one minute left, UK took a timeout and again I watched Mo's facial expression and it was not good.
I hope what I saw was a kid who was just pissed that he was not able to help his team out but there is another part of me that thinks different.
Our shooting was just crappy. But again, you can win games when this happens by doing the other parts of the game with the things you can control, your effort.
It was late in the 2nd half, UNC missed a shot and 00 just stood there under the basket watching the rebound bounce around him at arm length. Effort or lack of is what I saw.
As I watch these games against Mich. St, UNC, UL, how do they get these players that contribute to their success that were not a 5 star player but these kids sure play like they are 5 stars.
Like many other aspects of life that have ups and downs, I keep faith and wait for the day the sun shines bright again on my Old Kentucky Home!
But it isn't happening today I am afraid to say.
