I'm counting on Shows in the end. We got this. Just make the free throws, guys.

Hell the Texas coaching staff was allowed to stand out on the court the last couple minutes of the game, including the head coach standing right next to Shows on a crucial in bounds play that resulted in a TO. Doug could've reached out and touched him but didn't even look at him. I've seen our staff over the years get directed back to the bench incessantly.

Did you see him pat the Texas coach on the arm on the way off the court?
Wow, I didn't notice that. I know Shows hates Kentucky. Perry and Oweh got hammered in the last 2 minutes of the game with no call.

Even with Shows against us, Kentucky had the game won before they gave up.

Truly amazing this guy gets paid as a ref, ball bounced off Texas player knee right in front of him…….texas ball.
Officiating was not great, and I knew UK would get it in the end because at half time the cats had shot more FT's so they had to make that gap up.

The L can be on us, AND the refs can still be awful.
This was true last night. The point is that it shouldn't be like this. Teams shouldn't have to play 5 vs 8 every game.

I have no idea if the refs are on the take or not but after seeing the job they have done this season it is easy to see why some assume that they are. UK has had the worst of it, but I have seen this same thing all over college basketball.

It isn't incompetency. It is pure maleficence. The question is why.

Incompetent officiating affects both teams equally. When it is overwhelmingly one sided that is not incompetence; it's bias. While it's true that every game lost by a few points could have been won no matter the officiating if the team had played a little better, I can't see any upside to ignoring intentional referee bias. It never changes unless people make a stink about it and right now it's only UK fans but if somebody isn't first to say something then nobody ever will.

I loved how the first half was officiated. The refs were actually letting the teams play. Why did they just randomly decide to officiate the 2nd half basically the complete opposite?
I said about 2-3 minutes in to the 2nd half it was back to back to back calls; I told my son, “…here come the refs to save the day for Texas”. It was obvious how the halves were officiated.

Probably the best whistle we have gotten all year, home or road.

It still wasn't good
The whistle was more fair than in most of our games, but Shows was just egregiously awful across the board. The fouls also weren't consistent. In the second half they paraded Auburn to the line to even up the FT attempts and in the last 3 minutes we struggled because they began refusing to call fouls on Auburn down low that had been called the entire game.

So, as much as the L is definitely on us, the officiating down the stretch absolutely played a part. We never responded to it, unfortunately.

What's hilarious is the Texas player was clearly completely in the lane before Williams crossed the free throw line, so...uh?

I assume both of these were on Doug Shows. Many refs miss calls. That's just how it is. Doug Shows will not only "miss" a brutally obvious call, but actually find something to call on the other team. He does it ALL the time. That's because he is cheating.

“He’s got a little bit of the show pony in him. He doesn’t always just pay attention to the game.’’

“Always in a bad mood and angry toward coaches.”

“He’s actually a good official, but some guys don’t like him because he’s a little bit of a showman. But I think he’s good.”

“Shows has a commanding presence. Keeps a firm control of the game. Very consistent.”

If you ignore the fact that bumping, shoving, grabbing, and continually hand checking clearly impeded our already depleted offensive attack. The Cat's had their share of struggles (some of it inexplicably unforced it seemed) or they could have pulled it out anyway but in the end the ref's were enough to make the difference.
