Sources tell Deadline that Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a new Naked Gun reboot, with Liam Neeson is in negotiations to star and Akiva Schaffer set to direct. While no greenlight has been given, sources say its headed in that direction once a deal closes for Neeson.

Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who just worked with Schaffer on the Emmy-winning Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers pic, also closed a deal to pen the script. Mark Hentemann & Alec Sulkin wrote the previous draft. Schaffer also will exec produce. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing via their company Fuzzy Door.

To clarify, it's apparently a sequel, not a reboot. Liam Neeson's supposedly playing Frank's son.

The original cast and crew are a damn tough act to follow, but after seeing Rescue Rangers three times I think these guys can absolutely nail it.

Meh I'm not excited about hypocrite Liam Neeson in anything. The guy wants gun control all while making hundreds of millions on movies featuring gun violence. The strange thing is it isn't just one movie either it's most of his movies. If he was that passionate about stopping gun violence he would take a stand against doing those types of movies but that would get into his pocket so it's much easier to not practice what he wants to preach.

Lt. Frank Drebin:
Now, Jane, what can you tell us about the man you saw last night?

Jane Spencer:
He's Caucasian.

Ed Hocken:
Caucasian?

Jane Spencer:
Yeah, you know, a white guy. A mustache. About five-foot-ten.

Lt. Frank Drebin:
That's an awfully big mustache.

It took me a while to get used to seeing Nielsen in dramatic roles like he didn’t d in the 1950s and 60s. Totally strange.

If I recall correctly, the main reason he was cast in Airplane was that he was known as a straight deadpan actor. Same with Peter Graves, Robert Stack, and Lloyd Bridges. Producers thought it would be funnier to have them be in it than comedic actors

Do you realize that because of you this city is being overrun by baboons?

Frank: Well, isn't that the fault of the voters?

This actually looks promising. Liam can low-key pull off some comedic roles. And because it's been so long since they've done a Police/action parody, there's a LOT of content they can work with. Here's to hoping it's good.
