It's time for the Ryder Cup's ugly red headed stepchild to get their moment in the sun.

Yes, the biennial event you never hear American players say they have dreamed about playing in since they were kids. And an international team that gets excited but can't tell their teammates about because they speak 15 different languages. Kudos to them for getting excited, if only the Washington Generals could feign so much excitement against the Globetrotters.

No real drama this year. Stricker already said he was taking the top 11 so no worries for Hoffman getting bumped yesterday. The 12th pick could add excitement but only if Steve does the completely unexpected and picks someone besides Lefty.

Hope to see Tiger there as an assistant again. Really surprising how he seems to enjoy that role and how he reaches out to the younger generation of players. Who would have ever thought Tiger would be that guy.

The biggest controversy will be probably be political as I'm sure some will complain about the course owner/developer.

Regardless, I'm excited for this years President
Cup. Team golf and match play is must see television.

I love golf, watch all the majors, and several other tournaments, think the Ryder Cup is the bomb, an all time sports favorite.

But I just cannot get excited about the Presidents Cup. It always seemed contrived to me, with as you say, no real cohesion on the foreign team. That and the US always wins. Just not my cup of tea.

Which raises an interesting question, if the International team became more competitive and started winning would you become more interested?

The Ryder Cup went through a similar phase where the US was making it so lopsided that they expanded the team to include all of Europe rather than just GB.

Maybe let Drain play for the International team. That would really spruce things up and give the Americans something to have to account for. 100% lock he is a solid match play golfer.

Ok, I have to admit I don't know who Drain is?

It is no longer a step-child, given that the International Team top to bottom is stout. Of course it doesn’t have the history, hyperbole, or media hype of the RC, but it is every bit its equal in terms of quality golf, and trumps it in terms of world talent.

Tiger wanting to be an assistant, and Mickelson doing all he can to make the team is all that needs to be said about how much the players care. Ask Kevin Chappell how he felt when he found out he made the top 10 Monday. Go back and watch the players reactions from past events….they don’t care??

It may have been a made for TV production at first, but is an excellent event now.

Nobody cares about the Presidents Cup, just ask Jack. It's nothing more than a glorified exhibition.

None of us do, that is what makes him such a mystery. He makes challenges and talks a big game, talks down to everyone and their ability. But nobody has witnessed his greatness.

I suspect he is Justin Thomas

Dammit. That was a hell of a post and it flew right over my head. Sorry BG.

I never said the players didn't care. I simply said you've never seen a player say it was his dream to make the Presidents Cup team.

It doesn't come close to the prestige of the Ryder Cup regardless of the quality of the International team. The general public cares little about it and the golfing public doesn't really care that much more.

I like the Presidents Cup and will watch it but it's not close to the Ryder Cup in prestige or importance and likely never will be.

Does anyone doubt that if I'd posted about how the Presidents Cup had reach or was approaching the same level as the Ryder Cup that UKO would have disagreed with that too.

The pick of Mickelson not surprising though I'm not sure he's playing well enough to make a big impact. Like Hoffmanns game a lot but wish somehow they could have had Dufner on there. The Presidents Cup is strange in that I've thought the international team was stronger several times but the Americans have dominated. The opposite has seemed to have happened in the Ryder Cup.

Listening to Inside the Ropes on PGA Tour radio and they are discussing how to make the Presidents Cup more competitive. I only heard the first question/suggestion by a caller.

Old lady called in and asked why they didn't use handicaps to even up the teams like amateurs do? So how many shots would Thomas have to give Day based on the last 10 rounds?

I feel like they should toy with the format a little more to distinguish it from the RC. Handicaps is obviously ridiculous but something like a pure scramble one round or a points game like low ball low total...just to mix it up, would be cool.

How about make them play for their own money, each player puts up $100K to play, winning team takes it all.

That was the gist of what they were saying. Can you imagine the scores with a scramble! That would be fun to watch. Something to make it different.

DJ, Speith, Fowler v Hideki, Scott, Day pure three man scramble for 18 holes match play style for a point on Sat morning. Who's not watching that?

Give me Thomas instead of Fowler and i am good. Nothing against Ricky, but Justin is on another level right now.

Live From I think at 11:30 today.

Tiger must have finally fixed his back with the fusion. Can't believe he still lifts though.

I bet cawood has one of the big tiger head headcovers and has had it since 99. Probably juggles balls with his wedge on the range 24/7 and wears red polos any time he’s got a big game on Sunday.

Trublu, maybe if u put the same effort in your golf game as you did in trying to be funny in that first paragraph of your OP you could break 100.

Fowler and Thomas are proving to be a hell of a pairing so far. Just day one and still some holes to play but they just really seem to complement each other as a pairing.

Damn. I fully expected Phil to make that. Still 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 after day one is a great start.
