The ramifications if Stoops returns after a losing season?

Still a lot of football left, but if the Cats continue on the trajectory they're on and finish something like 4-8, and Stoops is brought back for 2017, what will be the effects on the program and the fanbase?

Both the fanbase and the program will take hits. Which means I could see transfers, nfl declaring, and decommits. As for the fans, don't expect to see a full house at all next season in commonwealth. Literally stoops would have to pull some "upsets" in order for people to believe again

The worst ramification will be seen in recruiting.

This years' class will be less talented than anticipated.

The current juniors and sophomores will not want to be associated with us.

The freshmen and middle schoolers will see that UK just isn't cool.

Who knows the residual effect on talent in the future?

Here is what could easily happen.

We go 5-7 this season and he comes back. Next year we have a full roster of upperclassmen and we could easily go to a bowl. The problem is we will have some transfer of young players who think it is a cluster and the recruiting class falls apart this season. He gets to come back in '18 only to have a thin class again and no mojo.

The best case is he is fired at the end of season at latest and that helps us keep a great class and no transfers. New coach comes in and goes to bowl which gives him momentum and that builds on itself.

Either way, we are screwed if stoops comes back. Honestly 6 wins or less shows us very little besides that it took Stoops 4 years to beat teams while they are down...but cant beat the C-USA. And 2 games into the season we have had a 79-0 run on us already, against 2 unranked opponents. We are in trouble boys

We are not going 5-7 this year.

We may not win a single conference game. Vanderbilt and South Carolina are both better than we are.

Yes, we are in trouble. It sickens me.

I don't know what the ramifications will be, nor will I care. If Stoops returns after yet another miserable season, I will simply tune out UK football entirely until positive change occurs. I'm not going to emotionally or financially invest myself in a train wreck. The only hope I have within me right now that's keeping me around is the slim possibility we might get a new coaching staff soon. Without that hope, there is nothing left.

Stoops can save himself and the program if he loses some ego and brings in some top assistants.

He needs to call in an old Miami connection and get Randy Shannon up here, have mitch make him the highest paid DC.

Then bring in Ed Orgeron to coach the DL, also make him the highest paid at his position.

Call in another Miami connection, bring larry coker in as an assistant. Obviously has a really nice resume, as well as experience.

Then have Mitch call Saban to get the scoop on Sark, is he on a better path if so then bring him on as an offensive assistant/recruiting assistant.

Lastly, give June Jones a ring. See if he wants to be pass game coordinator/special assistant.

Now, I realize all of those guys coming here is pie in the sky. Though I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of "money talks". If CMS and Mitch could get two of those guys, we see exponential improvement.

If he gets them all, it will be an extraordinary achievement, something we'll talk about for ages. The staff former head coaches, some with NC rings, CMS put together.

To answer the question posed, if CMS returns and makes no changes this program is going back to the abyss because if we fire another young coach no body is going to want this job. Recruits won't be interested because they know that any sell job by a new coach will be bullsh*t because he won't be around in a few years.

We have everything a competitive program needs to compete at a respectable level, a loyal fan base just ready to take their already remarkable support to an even greater level, we have the money flowing into the program for facilities and upgrades, and we have a young coach that was a top coordinator with a football pedigree who can really recruit. All we need is an upgrade in staff. CMS' biggest error is stocking his staff with younger relatively unproven cats who were not ready for the monumental task that is UK football.

This is it folks, the brink. We are teetering on the edge and can go one of two ways.

I personally think it would be a terrible mistake. If we see no improvement, Mitch will be making another huge mistake by dragging things out to long. Recruiting will take a hit and this program is not in the type of shape that it can afford that. After a football season, the earlier the decision on a new coach the quicker that a new staff can hit the ground running on getting the type of players they need for their systems of play. Recruit rankings aren't near as important as finding kids that fit your system.
I think that Stoops isn't the man for this job. I will gladly admit it if he proves me wrong but as it stands I think changes should be made.

There may be worse ramifications. I would expect some defections off the current roster. That plus no recruiting will leave us in the type of state that you normally see with schools that have a 2 year ban on recruiting. That kind of recruiting loss mixed with defections will basically do what it did to SMU.

Hate to say it, but Stoops inst going anywhere anytime soon. Mitch will stand by his man til the bitter end. Program, players and fans be damned. It will probably be healthy to just emotionally disengage cause...we're just getting started bro.

Run for the exits, find a life raft and get off this sinking ship while you can. Stoops and Barney are steering UK football right into the iceberg.

If we are having to bring a DC in at year 5 then this thing is beyond fixing. A head coach has his thumb print on one side of the ball and for stoops that would be the defensive side. After three years of poor showing I promise you this week isn't the first time that Stoops has played a bigger role with the defense.

I think our chances of being 4-8 are slim. 1-11 is much more likely.

We are (more or less) on probation until Stoops is gone.

The consequences of keeping him through the 2017 season are way too damaging to keep him around.
