The Rule of 71 Holds Again

So this has been an ongoing thing for years now. I know KSR had an article on it a few years back showing how the Cats had won like 97% of the games they hit 71 first from around 2009 to 2020. Where did this rule come from? Is it a message board thing? A real stat that is tracked? Truly what is it, and how did it start? What makes it so pervasive on this board?

You'd probably find a similar percentage for 70 and 72. Also, teams that are ahead at halftime win more games than teams behind at halftime. It's a meaningless stat.
