I went by there yesterday. The barn is gone.

Apparently the land has been sold for a housing project. Sad news for Glenbard North wrestling.

What’s the story on the gold dot?

Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream IL, home of Tony Ramos and Abe Assad, has always had an outstanding wrestling program. Their head coach, Mark Hahn, is in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

The school was built on land that used to be the Hahn family dairy farm. They kept a few acres kitty corner from the school and their barn was on that corner. At some point Hahn had a gold dot painted on the roof of the barn and started the Secret Society of the Gold Dot. I lived in Carol Stream for 30+ years and have no idea what it means, but always remember it being there.

The meaning of the gold dot is known only to GBN wrestlers, but it had become a Carol Stream landmark. I was sad to see it gone this past weekend.

GNHS wrestlers often wore black shirts with gold dots on them when warming up.

Just to be a bit more specific… Mark Hahn is in the Illinois “Chapter” of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
