This is a very good show. In fact that whole run around that time (and I know everyone knows that Barton Hall is the High Water mark
Not sure why the rest of the post was not included but while I think Barton is a great show there are actually other shows in this run I think are better.

Interesting. I thought for sure this post title was in regards to John Black stepping away, after 45 years, from writing 'The Football Letter'. It's very fitting.

Robert Hunter lyrics from "Terrapin Station"

This was about a month after my first Dead show at Giants Stadium. If I remember this was not long after Garcia was in the diabetic coma. That fall they had some amazing shows at MSG.

Boston is really good too. Everyone loves Buffalo and to me it's good but not great.

I guess we will agree to disagree - I really like Buffalo and Boston is the main show I was referring to when I made the original post(s). Great show top to bottom! Just a great time for the band - they seemed on top of their game. The unfortunate thing for me is that as these shows were happening I was 4 just about to turn 5. So all I have is recordings and memories of shows that happened much later in time (late 80's early 90's before JG's passing).

It annoys me that they never came to PSU until Keith was gone.

'77 is awesome; one of the best years, but they don't go to deep space enough. No Dark Stars :(

Check out 6/9/77 Winterland, it's so amazing. It's trapped in an out of print box set, but the matrix version that's out there is great. It has the perfect setlist and they don't play until everything is just exactly perfect.
