Yeah...good old Neal has the lads striving for mediocrity! Got a shot at a stellar 6-6 season and a slot in the Swamp Frog bowl against SW Louisiana State Teachers College! A win against the MudBugs would be a big one. Yessireebob. Is headed in the right direction. I don't think we will see the team quit and will finish stronger with a bowl win.
End of next year, or mid season, we will know for sure. As of now, the depth was non existent and the mental toughness was fragile.Yeah...good old Neal has the lads striving for mediocrity! Let's hope. Last night's loss could be deflating going forward or it could have proved to the players that they are capable of beating anyone and are champing at the bit to tear into TT.Is headed in the right direction. What is your problem? NB has this team poised to do better things. We took the #4 team down to the wire in what should have been a complete demoralizing blow out.Yeah...good old Neal has the lads striving for mediocrity! Some of the players tweets show strong mental resiliency. Obviously we won't know until next Saturday... but a better sign then before.Let's hope. Last sentence... great point. What is your problem? NB has this team poised to do better things. We took the #4 team down to the wire in what should have been a complete demoralizing blow out.
Yes, we all can p ice out problems at the end of the game. But give Rattler and Riley credit for their game plan and execution in the 4th Q. That is what you would expect from a #4 team.
This team is full of Fr & SO's that will get better as the season goes on.
Shut up Loser typical of you whining like a ***** after every loss but having nothing to say after wins. You should be happy Oklahoma wonYeah...good old Neal has the lads striving for mediocrity! The offensive line is better today than it was in year 1. The program isn't there yet but its not that far away either.I don't think we are. We are better on defense so far compared to what I expected with the defections in the secondary and the linebacker corps looking underwhelming. The offense is at best no better than last year. So I'm a bit worried that the defense loses heart when it pretty much sees it's effort and momentum continually thwarted by the offense's ineptitude which has happened in 3 games and cost us 2 already.
We are closer to "there" than it seems. When you consider that we handed two wins to OU and Terps, its not hard to imagine how easily we could be 4-0 right now with better QB play and play calling. We have a great defense and a lot of talent on offense, but sadly a 5th year senior QB who has gotten worse every year of his career, and is continuing that trend every game. Meanwhile we have a very dynamic QB in Greene and another pocket passer type in Crowder sitting on the bench learning nothing from the super senior except what not to do. I think Crowder or Greene could outplay Doege. And Neal Brown lost a lot of credibility by saying Doege is the most improved player. Dude is having the worst year of his career. I have no idea what Neal Brown see's in this kid but the infatuation with him is ridiculous. The offensive line is better today than it was in year 1. We have a good defense but the offense is a work in progress. I wouldn't go as far and say that we have a lot of talent on offense. Greene adds a running dimension that Doege doesn't but he is not that great of a passer. As for crowder you don't know anything about him at this point. We are closer to "there" than it seems. We are just a few stupid mistakes from being undefeated including OU. Mistakes that really shouldnt happen as much as they do, and they fall mostly on Doege. We have talented WR's, and a very good RB. QB play is what is hurting the O more than anything. Doege has overlooked so many wide open WR's its clear that he doesnt go through his reads very well. He also overthrows way too many passes, even ones some of the WR's manage to catch. Greene will never develop if he doesnt get more reps. But really at this point its all for not because with Nicco coming in, I'm guessing he will be the guy moving forward, and Greene will transfer to a school who specifically wants a duel threat QB. Maybe he wont, but the writing is on the wall for it at the moment. Things could change though. We have a good defense but the offense is a work in progress. So if we had gotten our arses stomped in the ground like everyone figured we would it would have been okay. But instead we took the #4 team in the country down to the wire on their home field so now the whole program is a big ball of suck. Thanks so much for clearing that up for everyone, Karen.
Defense had that chance Saturday night with OU backed up at their own 7 with 3 minutes on the clock and failed to finish the job. You can't blame one side of the and separate the team. Both had jobs to do. Both failed.I'm sure the defense is chomping at the bit to see the offense squander more of their hard work and have to win the game themselves.
Exactly I mean anyone watching could clearly see it was the Defense that let everyone downDefense had that chance Saturday night with OU backed up at their own 7 with 3 minutes on the clock and failed to finish the job. Well we might as well blame the center for the offense not scoring as much as blaming the QB. That center blew 2 scoring opportunities. They did and they failed. While the offense failed their assignments how many times? If the defense botched half as many of the opportunities as the offense has, WVU is blown out of every FBS game this year. The offense can screw up as many times as they have and still be within striking distance because the defense has mostly been doing their job. You cannot deny that the defense has given the offense all this room for error by still having the team within striking distance and that offense has zero chance to reciprocate for the defense if they screw up.
Let's say you have 2 players in basketball where one goes 12 for 16 shooting and the other goes 1 for 10. The team loses by 3 points and when criticizing the 1 for 10 player, someone brings up that the 12 for 16 player did miss an open 3 and an easy break away layup. While those shortcomings are true, those pale in comparison to what the first player did right and what the second player did wrong. So you could argue that the first player did have a chance to win it, but you can't deny that the second player did lose it. So it is with the defense and offense in this game. The defense could've played A+ level ball and won the game while the offense could've played C level ball and won the game. I think we can agree that it's reasonable to expect one unit to perform average to win the game moreso than the other unit exceed its already above average performance. This is all on top of Riley led Oklahoma teams traditionally being more offensive minded and thus the defense generally having the tougher assignments against the Sooners.
Typical dumbass reply and taking things out of context. Troll elsewhere fraud.Exactly I mean anyone watching could clearly see it was the Defense that let everyone down

It's a team game. The team came up short, the coaches came up short.
Now if you want to put grading to the level of play for each individuals then that would make more sense than that just placing blame on an individual.
Begin honestly grading each play and individuals performance and we could see why one side performed well at times or didn't.
But I guess placing blame or grading performance it's still based on what we see and know. Critiquing one player as the root to the entire problem might not be just him.
Generally what you wrote is pretty spot on. However, there are a few things I would slightly disagree with you on.They did and they failed. While the offense failed their assignments how many times? Sorry, missed this post..It is a team game and individual plays can make all the difference such as a WR breaking a tackle for a big gain or a lineman missing a block and allowing a sack fumble w/ the QB in mid throw. However the modern game has it so most of the play is dictated by one player and that is the QB. A solid defense and running game can compensate for QB shortcomings, but when it comes to putting the ball into play it is on what the QB is capable of the most. Ultimately my analogy was not meant to critique individual player performances of the football team, but rather compare the 2 biggest units of the team. So far this season, including the most recent game, the defensive unit has been much more of a team asset and the offense has been much more of a team liability. The fact that neither side has been perfect and both sides have had some good moments does not disprove this general trend across the first 3rd of the season.
We are aso a few stupid mistakes from being 1-3 as well. Maryland outgained us by over 150 yards. The talented receivers you talk about don't consistently catch the ball even when it hits them in the hands and numbers. Doege is not a big time qb but I doubt Greene is either. He adds more mobility but he is not pat white. He is also only 5 10 and would have trouble seeing the field if he was standing back in the pocket. No one knows if Nicco will be any good he isn't even here yet. If there was a qb clearly better than Doege he would be starting. Doege was supposed to save the program from Kendall until it appears he wasn't.We are just a few stupid mistakes from being undefeated including OU. I would say rather than comparing shooting the better comparison would be what the person you defended also scored. Basically the Jordan McCabe effect - he would score 24 points but give up 30 (not exactly but you get the point) so that's a net loss of 4 points. The guy who went 1-10 and scored 3 points but defensively gave up 0 is +3. So, the 1-10 guy technically had the better night wouldn't you say?
Overall, I agree with most of your arguments. But right now, while our defense has really looked good they haven't been creating turnovers. So far, the only one that I recall is the interception Saturday night. What if the defense creates a couple more turnovers and those turn into a field goal at worse? Right now, that would make us either 3-1 or 4-0 and everybody would be happier. With the way this offense has been up and down, nothing is a guarantee.
Absolutely...I agree that the defense has its problems and in both of our losses they gave up drives that sealed the game when a stop would've kept us in it. It has been by no means perfect. However, despite their problems the defense has for the most part played beyond well enough for WVU to be 4-0. The offense on the other hand has for the most part played poorly enough for WVU to be 1-3 at this point. So I find critiques of the defense in response to critiques to the offense to be hollow. It makes little sense to expect improvement from the defense as much as the anemic offense that for significant portions of the game poses as much of a threat as a kitten.
