Let’s do a thread about bourbon!

All things related to America’s native spirit.

What are you drinking,
What are you collecting,
Where are you visiting,
Favorite cocktails,
New releases,
Bourbon hunting.

If it’s made with at least 51% corn, distilled at no more than 160 proof, and put into new charred oak barrels at 125 proof then let’s talk about it.

I feel like this years BTAC should be announced any day now. Hopefully we get a GTS this year.

In regards to more attainable stuff, I can’t get enough of Old Forester Barrel Strength picks 🔥🔥🔥

Woodford seems to be my go to lately.

Buffalo Trace and Angels Envy are very smooth as well.

Here is one a lot of people may not know about... I was gifted a bottle of Woodinville Peppers & Pears back in August. It is excellent.

It is made in Washington state and the Peppers & Pears is one of 3 special batches they made for OHLQ up here in Ohio. My non-drinking brother in law asked some bourbon guru what he should get me for my bday and that is what he recommended. I'm glade he did.

The Down Home Bourbons and Ryes are fantastic and the dude that puts them out posts on here. They are very heavy in my rotation.

My other favorites that I currently have some left on my shelf are Col. EH Taylor, Eagle Rare, Woodford Double Oaked, OKI Thin Blue Line, Blanton's and Weller Antique.

I worship Booker's and can't find it anywhere.

Weed smoker who occasionally drinks bourbon. Not an aficionado by any means.

My go-tos are:
Woodford Reserve
Knob Creek single batch
Buffalo Trace

Old Forrester is a decent cheap option.

Favorite cocktails:
Bourbon over ice
Bourbon and Sprite
Shots with a small sip of coke as a chaser

I don’t understand collecting bottles you don’t plan to drink.

This is most of my bottle collection. Lots can’t be catalogued and some I just forgot to log in.

Was told I need to do a formal spreadsheet with quantities/photos for insurance purposes.
A good friend recently graduated from UK in Chem E, also with his MBA, and went to work as a production supervisor/engineer in Bardstown for BDC. Literally doesn't drink a lick, but will have to do taste tasting.

My son, a freshman at UK for chemistry is going to try to get his Beam Certificate for distilling…

Examples of some I won’t open: A bottle of Booker’s Rye Limited Edition…last batch personally barreled by Booker Noe. Current value is around $4k. I have the “Justify” Maker’s Mark triple crown bottle. Also have a bottle of Maker’s with a custom label bearing my name.

What's the purpose of collecting? To stare at the bottle and wish you were drinking it? You're going to die staring at the bottles?
I have an unopened 100th Kentucky Derby Jim Beam Decanter on my shelf, I hang on to that, maybe it will be worth something someday. But I don't open it just to keep it in original condition.

It all starts and ends with Blantons for me.

I drink, I do NOT collect.

And unless you call adding ice a cocktail. pretty straight forward.

I bought a couple bottles of it but haven’t gotten around to opening one of them yet. Trying to finish off a couple others first.
Yeah I grabbed two bottles as well, and based on my initial pour, I wasn‘t impressed. Instead of the honey complementing the traditional bourbon flavors, to me it really just diluted it.

I’ll give it another shot, but so far it hasn’t measured up to the other Honey finishes I’ve tried(Starlight and Belle Meade 🔥.)

I’m a scotch guy, but I love manhattans. I’ll either use knob creek or woodford double oaked for those. My go to after a long work week cocktail in the winter. Other than that it’s scotch on the rocks or a Rob Roy (Manhattan with scotch instead of bourbon).

If you’re a Knob Creek fan Jim Beam is releasing an 18 year old Knob Creek next Wednesday at the distillery next Wednesday.
