When will the unthinkable happen and someone transfers from Duke to UNC? or vise versa. Or has it been done before athlete wise?

I'm sure it has happened in a non money sport. Regular students do it every year.

Wasn't Art Heyman committed to UNC and then switched to Duke at the last minute or something? I think that may be the closest to that ever happening.

The only person that I can think of was Maktar Ngiah or whatever his name was. Went from WF to Mich. and back to UNSux. I believe it is correct that you cannot transfer inside the conference unless you transfer out first. Gbinije went to Cuse when they were big east. The year he sat out I believe was when Cuse became ACC

Read yesterday one of Obi's finalists was Ga.Tech....This might be ok if the school ( in this case Duke) has no objections.

I believe that the rule for intraconference transfers is that you lose a year of eligibility during the year you sit out.

I don't think Duke would have a say in Obi transferring within the conference, or that he would lose the year because he graduated. Technically, he's not transferring. At least that is how I understand it.

Wasn't Phil Henderson really into UNC or State and then decided to come to Duke late? I can't remember the whole story, maybe he was just a fan of one of those before Duke recruited him.

doesnt when the player says he wants to transfer, the school he's transferring from can list schools that he can't transfer to? im sure unc would be 1st on the list of places he can't go.

And just think of all the UNC locks that K has recruited away with his shenanigans.

LOL. Just think of all the unc locks that hof coach roy williams has told to go elsewhere because they just weren't unc type ball players and grateful for the ones that came to Duke. OFC

Spike Albrecht went from Michigan to Purdue without sitting out a year. He was a grad transfer, of course. I think Obi could probably make that jump without any repercussions as well.

Technically are you saying a "grad transfer" can go anywhere he pleases, even in conference w/o special permission??? I am just asking for my own info, please not being confrontational- thx....OFC

I thought I remembered with the Albrecht situation Michigan wanted to block that transfer (so presumably they could) but people were screaming that it wasn't right for them to do so (they maybe had a young guy coming in that was better than him). Maybe this isn't right.

I'm not certain on the exactness of transfer restrictions/limitations, to be honest. But upon further review, it looks like Michigan did originally block Albrecht from transferring to any of the other Big 10 Schools. So I take it the former school can impose some sort of restriction. Transferring within the same conference is very, very rare.

Cuse wasn't part of the ACC when MG transferred in. I think the rule is, if a player transfers before mid season or after a season the school can limit where he transfers to such as inside the conference. If it is a grad transfer I think the school holds no weight due to the student already graduating from that school and fulfilling his scholarship.
