Not for me. I take losses very hard, but I’m also realistic. Many fans think we will win every game and disrespect our opponents. You can be a really, really good team and still lose at Alabama. I’m looking for us to play well, and I’m HOPING we win.

Some of the fans: “You didn’t pick us to win. You’re a fake fan if you don’t think we will win every game by 30+. You have lowered the ‘standards.’”

Some of the other fans: “You’re dumb for picking us to win, because we don’t do this certain thing good enough for me to be happy. You’re just coping…cope with Pope…”

Nope. You can be a fan and not let yourself fall into the infinite black hole of sadness and you can be a fan without dancing on rainbows while eating Skittles and looking for pots of gold.

Standards can still be had without winning every game by 30. The 2012 title team lost some games but didn't lower the standard.

I think part of what has hurt us is how close we got to making history in 2015 and we came up short due to a multitude of problems.
And ever since then it's just felt off. 2018 was kind of the last real shot we had at a title and well, Cal blew that one.

I agree. If we won every game by 1 point, I’m a happy camper. Id probably die of cardiac first, but I’d be happy.

He is cleared to play at full speed and his injury is healed. Worrying about bad things happening is not a winning mentality. Pope talks about knowing the assignment, but seems to coach not to lose.
Bull crap they were playing Bellarmine. They didn't need him.. It's like keeping good players in after a blowout so my kids hurt you guys would've want to crucify the coach.

I feel like we had more of a sudden in 2017

NCAA rules mandate 3 days off. So better to go with the way Ky did with afternoon game & easier flight schedules to get Vacation started. Then after 3 1/2 days off practice hard with full contact scrimmages because Pope has 13 to 15 bodies to make practice intense.
Questions about Lowe & BG injuries. Great opportunity for JJ & Jelly to step it up.
Id rather practice against Ky non starters than play a game against Ark Texarkana?

I'm not risking a dude for 30 minutes in a game I should easily win. Come next week? All or nothing.
How is it risking a dude? Maybe we shouldn’t practice all year and just hope we get hot in the SEC tourney and make a March run.

Guys need to practice and play to get better. Especially a raw talent who has sat out the last 300 days.

I heard the players were holding out for more NIL money so we haven't played for 11 days. They wanted a raise after the St. Johns performance.

Congrats....JQ got injured and is now out for SEC play because you wanted to use him for Bellarmine.

It's about logic. Yes. You have to practice. You don't have to risk injury in a game you're going to win regardless by going hard for 30 minutes.

There's a reason NFL teams don't play their starters the last week before playoffs much. We need every SEC win we can get- thus no reason to risk a dude more than need in a game against a low D1 opponent.

The long break seems worse because there has been no games worth watching the last few days. I keep thinking there will be good football games to watch...but absolutely nothing.
PopTarts Bowl was actually a good game and fun too.

Rest...not so much

I think most logical fans expect to lose this game. So I disagree it will be Armageddon.

If we do a typical Pope special of getting down big n the first half, we won't be coming back to win at Tuscaloosa.

Pope needs to figure out how to have the team ready to play at tipoff.

I've watched Bama play numerous times we don't have enough shooting to keep pace with them all five guys at any time can shoot the rock .
St Johns scored 96 on them and we have more scoring options than SJ does. They don't even have a pg.
This game will play into our hands a little, it will be up and down, not a half court game and we have really good depth.

We need to just throw Kam and JJ out there and let em get baptized by fire. I get JJ can take bad shots. But he’ll he could also win us a big game and put up 25 pts and 8 ast with 5-6 3’s. Kam is tall and long and can get that shot up over anybody. He needs to be the primary backup 3 and 4 and we can go different looks. Here’s where it’s real. Chandler and Noah. They can’t create their own shot. Noah won’t ever be that guy. Too bad he isn’t 6’8. But if they aren’t gonna make shots they simply don’t need to play. We need to act as if SEC play onward is a sprint and play Lowe 30 a game. If he gets hurt. Then he gets hurt. But if we want any chance at 9. It’s with him and JQ playing big mins. JQ should be ready to ramp it up to 22-25 mins vs Bama and we’re gonna need him to be rough as hell. Give us 12-15 with 8-9 plus boards and 2-3 big blocks.
I'm not sure JQ can go 22-25 vs Bama, that is going to be a track meet, where both teams just run hard until the whistle blows.
Hopefully Mo D and MM show up big when JQ is getting rest.

Well, the reason NFL teams sit players the last week, is because they can’t improve, or lose their current playoff standing, not because they are lowering the risk of injury.
The argument for playing JQ 15 or so minutes against Bellarmine, is to get him into game shape. You have to get him into actual games to make that happen. It's hard to similulate that in practice, the stress isn’t there and it would actually suck more if he got hurt in practice than a game.
Either way, I think JQ is going to be great, but there are arguments for both sides here.

It'll be armegeddon just for the fact that we will already have 5 losses. That's just bad, considering how awesome we believed this team was going to be.
But it's also about why we lost. Was it a lack of effort? Lack of preperation? Substitution patterns? Officiating?
I hate these long layoffs. Teams get rusty, but at least Alabama has a long layoff too and maybe their fans will be more concerned with their playoff game.

At this point, it's not a matter of needing him. The team needs to learn to play with him. They need to get timing and spacing with him on the court. They need to know what he can do in game situations. He should have played 30 minutes against Bellarmine.

That matters too. I hate these long layoffs between games. It’s bad scheduling. We are going to be rusty.
We saw a good example of what rust does last year in the college football playoffs. All the teams that had a bye, lost to lower seeded teams that played much more recent games.
Hopefully our guys come out on fire Saturday. Pope needs to start Lowe and bring Quaintance in quickly and often.
Play your best players.

Meanwhile Bama rested Philon vs Yale so he could rest and recover in time for the UK game.
Any coach would rest guys against teams like Yale or Bellarmine, lol what are we even talking about here?
The same people would be b*tching if that same player got hurt in a meaningless game vs Bellarmine.
