Do they have any DNA from the Zodiac that they can try to match to this guy?
The only DNA is from stamps. The hope is the stamps have zodiacs DNA and not the guy at the post office. It is only a partial DNA. Andrew had no siblings and his parents are dead. He also had no children and he was cremated. The best hope is a first cousin.

So did the widow give info to the police about the Codebreaker book or someone else? Seems like they could find more if she cooperated.

True Crime is a cottage industry. Lizzie Borden. Jack the Ripper. The Lindbergh Kidnapping. The Kennedy Assassinations. The Black Dahlia. The Hall-Mills murders.

My father was a True Crime nut. Sorry ... aficionado. Back when I was learning to read, those kinds of books were the ones around the house. To this day I can remember what Andrew Borden had for breakfast that fateful day: cold mutton and a banana. If you chuckle over the phrase "the pig woman" I recognize a fellow sufferer.

BD was a deranged detective. He knew how to avoid getting caught because he was a detective himself.

William MacDuff Andrew

https://www.outkick.com/true-crime-expert-may-have-identified-the-zodiac-killer/

Morford (Morf) is pretty certain. Apparently, the handwriting and the proximity to all the crimes. Along with height and weight.

The thing that bothers me is this guy went back to a normal life in 1974. I don't get how that is done. I know it has been done.

Rumor has it that one time he was banned from the board and changed his name from Morf to From.

Some really cool evidence in all of this is supposedly the Halloween card sent to William Avery at the San Francisco chronicle had Valentine stickers inside it. No one could ever make sense of that. Mac was born on February 14th.

Another thing, the zodiac has pretty much been legendary and this guy was just pretty damn average. That was covered in the podcast about how people expect these evil people to be like the joker in Batman. When in reality, they're more like the milkman in the next town over.

From what I understand, these cold cases are left to DNA. I know there are some problems with some of the zodiac DNA but they did not say what that was. Possibilities could be it was from a woman or it was from an African American. There was a time when you took letters to the post office and the postmaster would lick the letter and put a stamp on it for you. If so, then they may not have any known DNA from the zodiac.

Curious if this guy was ever on the radar of police or not. You would think the proximity of his home to attack locations especially to the phone booth would have led them to at least interview he and his family. And if they did, why was he not seen as a suspect?

I am not a guy who spends a lot of time on these things, but I have wondered about this in some other cases. For example, Ted Bundy killed two girls in one day taking them from a lake. He used his real name "Ted." Witnesses saw him called him Ted and they knew he drove a VW bug and the color, yet he wasn't caught. BTK once killed a person but her brother (?) got away and saw him. The profile was that the killer was a criminal justice student, etc, which BTK was in the local college. You had that and an eyewitness and he was not a suspect? I know the cops were doing their best to catch these guys, but I wonder when I hear about things like that.

Most thought the zodiac was older. I think his youth may have played a role in him being overlooked. Bryan Hartnell and Michael Mageau both said that the zodiac was in his 20s. The San Francisco, PD said he was closer to 40.

No criminal record either. Not military. The wing walker boots had them thinking it was ex or current military. It is amazing how many boxes Arthur Lee Allen checked.

So basically the Zodiac is nobody that's ever even been on anybody's radar, lol.
Michael Butterfield is one of the top zodiac experts. He is basically what you just said. No matter who you get as a suspect, it can't be him. Some damn body was the zodiac. Or he was an alien.

For some of these guys that are heavily invested in these types of cases, they do not want it solved. Because their fame and livelihood depends on it being unsolved.

Donna Lass skeletal remains were found in 1986. They were positively identified through DNA in the last week or so. For years most people thought she was not a Zodiac victim and that Zodiac was just claiming her. He sent a map on the postcard indicating where the body would be from Clair Tappaan Lodge. His map indicated that she would be 15.3 mi west of the lodge. Her body was found 15.3 miles west of the lodge. So, either he got extremely lucky or all these doubts over the years were wrong.

Robert Graysmith's book is considered the best but the conclusions are all wrong. That's the problem with most of these books. People want to name a suspect and then list 10,000 reasons why they're the guilty party.

Robert Graysmith drew the conclusion that Zodiac knew Darlene Ferrin because someone called the house after Darlene was shot and breathed heavily into the phone. Within the last few years, her younger brother has admitted to calling the house and breathing heavily into the phone, because he was wanting to get some marijuana from Darlene. He also makes up some other facts that are convenient for his conclusion.

The best book is actually the podcast with Morford. Monster the Zodiac Killer was also great. Things have been learned since then though. Zodiac Speaking with Mike Morford and Richard Grinell and Criminology with Morford have in depth analysis.

Tom Voight thinks, Richard Gykowski was the Zodiac. Robert Graysmith thinks it was Arthur Lee Allen. Others think it's Ted Kaczynski. Larry Kane is a favorite of many. I'm a bit of a follower of Morford and think that he's probably correct that it's William Andrew.

It is one of those crimes that will never be solved. Like Jimmy Hoffa's disappearance, who really killed Jon Benet Ramsey, what happened to Judge Crater, Hell locally. What happened to Melanie Flynn? There are certain cases that no one suspect checks all the boxes, which is why they never get solved
