The day his son is born, and the first time he watches Terminator 2 with him

Ron Swanson said men could only cry in two situations: funerals and the Grand Canyon.

I’m pretty sure that if you’re with your adult son, it’s perfectly acceptable to shed a tear when watching Salma Hayek’s snake dance from the the movie “From Dusk Til Dawn”.

I'd substitute Armageddon for Terminator 2, when Bruce Willis sacrificed himself for his daughter's boyfriend (I think that's what happened? Watched it over 2 decades ago, haven't seen it again since) that just hit me hard.

Old Yeller, and:

The Watch

For twenty years
This sailor has stood the watch
While some of us were in our bunks at night
This sailor stood the watch

While some of us were in school learning our trade
This shipmate stood the watch

Yes.. even before some of us were born into this world
This shipmate stood the watch

In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen brewing on the horizon of history
This shipmate stood the watch

Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see his family standing there
Needing his guidance and help
Needing that hand to hold during those hard times
But he still stood the watch

He stood the watch for twenty years
He stood the watch so that we, our families and
Our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety, Each and every night
Knowing that a sailor stood the watch

Today we are here to say
'Shipmate... the watch stands relieved
Relieved by those You have trained ,Guided, and Led
Shipmate you stand relieved.. we have the watch..."

"Boatswain..Standby to pipe the side...Shipmate's going Ashore.."

Lot of good choices. I think Friday Night Lights (the movie, not that ****** TV show), will bring a tear to most men.

The half-time speech by Billy Bob Thornton, the fact that they *spoiler* lose in the end, going against the grain of Disney-like movies where the hero wins, and then the ending where the HS players are walking out of the stadium one last time, as Billy Bob removes their names off the depth chart.. and one final throw to a bunch of kids in a parking lot with a lot of themes of morality, loss of innocence/youth, passing the torch, etc... not to mention the band Explosions In The Sky playing.. Definite tear jerker for me.

This is like Dave Barry's Guide to Guys... two parts come to mind:

2) When is it okay to kiss another man?

Answer: When he is your brother and you are Al Pacino and this is the only really sportsmanlike way to let him know that, for business reasons, you have to have him killed.

2) When is it okay to hug another man?

Answer: 3 Options here:
  1. If he's your father and at least one of you has a fatal disease.
  2. If you're performing the Heimlich maneuver. (And even in this case, you should repeatedly shout: "I am just dislodging food trapped in this male's trachea! I am not in any way aroused!"
  3. If you're a professional baseball player and a teammate hits a home run to win the World Series, you may hug him provided that (1) He is legally within the basepath, (2) Both of you are wearing protective cups, and (3) You also pound him fraternally with your fist hard enough to cause fractures.
