...Davidson, except for lazy recruiting, lack of player development, smart player rotation, and an Administration that doesn't give a flyin' flamingo.

How would Davidson do in the Big Ten grind? They've gone after the foreign player model (which has served St. Marys and Gonzaga very well). Would like the see the Cats explore that more.

Probably pretty well. The A10 is one of the best mid-major conferences, they have an excellent coach, and they went 6-5 in Q1/Q2 games. No reason to think they'd fall apart, even if they wouldn't win as many games.

Collins has such a big buyout that they didn't want to fire him this year, the basketball facility was just remodeled at great cost, a practice facility was recently built for millions of dollars, and now they're talking of renovating Ryan so apparently the flamingos are flying somewhere.

Just heard C Barkely and other commentators on the Villanova win over OSU. Everyone mentioned the "Villanova culture and discipline..every player knows his role and executes it, and it all starts with the point guard." NU had that in 2017 with BMac et al, but not since. It's not rocket science and maybe we will see that down the road with CC if he survives, or whoever follows.

Lazy recruiting? Collins seemed to get highly touted guys.... I think we have difficulty developing them, and they may have been overrated by the so-called experts to begin with, but it doesn't sound like there was "lazy recruiting"....

The Program needs a complete overhaul. New coaches and head coach, and just complete gut-job start over.... If Collins couldn't ride the momentum of the first NCAA Tourney Wildcat team, the renovated arena, and the highly touted recruits, then he's probably not the right guy to get us where we want to be...

CC comes from a Duke program that could recruit and do not need to develop players. You fail and another 5 star is there to take your place. CC has that skill recruiting but seems to have trouble developing. The few recruits that can get past admissions see that or are probably informed by other programs that NU will not make them better players.

Why come to a program that can neither win nor develop them as players. A degree from NU can secure their future but there are other schools that can do the same. They develop them as players and they can experience the thrill of victory instead of the agony of defeat.

Most guys on NU don't know their roles.
The rest are confused as to how they are being used, why some guys play so much and why the coach substitutes every 90 seconds.

Admissions?
It’s this. It’s always this. And it will always be this.

I’m gonna bang this drum until … the day I stop caring and stop following NU sports. Which will probably happen sooner rather than later. The danger of the status quo isn’t mediocrity — it’s apathy from our already minuscule fan base.

They were very competitive against some good teams this year. The talent to have a more successful season was there. I'm not sure the desire and the coaching were. I just watch St. Peter's take down two good teams in the tourney, and you certainly can't convince me they have better talent than Northwestern. If Collins is gone after next year, I'd be looking at that guy unless someone else grabs him first.

T.J. Otzelberger.

This is the kind of coach you want.
Born in Milwaukee. Played basketball for UW-Whitewater. Team captain last 2 seasons.

Early development is quite similar to Tom Izzo. Coached high school basketball. Worked his way up, got noticed.

I think he was paid $1.5 million this year at Iowa State in the first season of a 5 year deal, taking the Cyclones from a 2-22 season to a Sweet 16 appearance, primarily via the transfer portal.

The flamingos are flying to Evanston from Pat Ryan’s vacation home on the Ocean.

Absolutely correct. It's the coach and the staff that create the successful culture where players know their roles and since 2017 we haven't seen that at NU. Can speculate forever about why, but you see it at places very different in talent level--Villanova, St Peters, Iowa State; the coaches made it happen and they are going to the Sweet 16. Hopefully I see that at NU in my lifetime

Every year there are teams not expected to advance that advance. Are these wins a product of culture or did they just happen to play outstanding ball? Does Iowa or Wisconsin players not understand their roles? Does Baylor or Kentucky have a bad culture? Even with a strong culture and players understanding their role to a Tee, you have to make shots. In most cases, it’s nothing more than that.

Understood. But Iowa, Wisconsin, Baylor and Kentucky are always (or almost always) in the NCAA tournament and yes, the players understand their roles but do not always make the shots. That's a nice problem to have and At NU, we are sadly way behind that curve after spending a shitload of $$ on facilities. Hard to believe that if Ryan had wanted CC to leave, the $9M would have been there (lunch money or less for him). Hopefully the transfer portal yields some good fruit for CC and his staff and we see some improvement next season, but am not holding my breath.
