Think Gran and Hinshaw Will Approach Phillips About Staying?

Hope not.

Phillips is OVC talent at best.

Probably more like Division III level.

Don't believe it matters. He's already been granted his release. I suppose he could re-enroll etc but I've never seen that happen.

Phillips burned his bridge with Stoops by calling him out in the media then tried to back track.

After being so negative publicly about Coach Stoops and also publicly supporting Shannon Dawson the way he did, I highly doubt Stoops would entertain the idea of him returning.

Courier can say what it wants and Reese can backtrack, but what's been said has been said.

On good terms, maybe, and I don't think Stoops would fault Reese for being upset. However, in the words of my late father, Reese "Done ripped himself a new *******." Both with the fanbase and Stoops by openly challenging Stoops's authority and credibility. Good terms or not, you don't allow someone who's so publicly ripped you a new one back onto the team.

Burned bridges with Stoops, he's gone.

And, to whoever gets him, understand what kind of young man your getting, the kind that skips town and flips the bird to the boss on his way out the door. If he did it to one boss, he'll do it to another.

There are a number of QB transfers out there every year and many of them are better than Phillips. I don't think we are going to be that desperate with the two hires we made today

He wasn't SEC material anyway. If we had to play him an extended period, we wouldn't win any game on the schedule except Austin Peay and NMSt.

I'd think they'd prefer going after someone THEY liked as a QB for THEIR offense vs. someone JOKER liked.

I think after Brown went down and evaluated him and told him his offer still stood it was more about the current QBs on our roster and being able to land another one that late in the game. I don't think they ever expected Phillips to start or be all SEC. He was the best option we had at the time. He kinda had to know he was gonna be a career backup at UK especially the way the new staff was recruiting. Then for him to get pissed and wanna leave and talk smack on his way out I don't think the coaches would really consider him staying now. They offered to let him stay and couple years later he wants to leave. It's on him now. I'm pretty sure between the 3 we have on roster now and Hinshaw/Grans ability to recruit other QBs we'll be fine.

I don't think you can come back after being granted release. Not sure why OP would want him back anyway as its pretty obvious Reese didn't/doesn't want to be here.

Randy Sanders recruited Phillips. I think he is a very gifted judge of QB talent. That' doesn't mean Phillips was SEC caliber, none of these guys come with guarantees. The fact is it's really impossible to know what Phillips could do until such time he actually plays somewhere.
