This can't hurt Iowa's recruiting ...

Extremely important win for Ben to get momentum behind this program. It was a nice first season which basically met a lot of our expectations. But had we lost to Florida and kept the Sweet 16 drought going, it would be viewed pretty similar to many Fran seasons - i.e., good (not great) team that couldn't reach the second weekend.

But now we have broken the Sweet 16 drought and puts Iowa in a very favorable spotlight which it has not had in a long time. Hopefully gets some buy-in with donors and makes a lot of recruits look at Iowa as a program with opportunity to make noise in March. Hopefully can put Iowa on a similar trajectory to what Otz has done at Iowa State after he made the Sweet 16 as an 11 seed in his first year.

you still need money to get the studs
Real silver lining type of guy you are...between you and a few others you'd have thought this team was toast. As far as I am concerned you can sit the rest of the tournament out bro. Ive been paying attention.

I have the reciepts.

Best part about it was that Iowa got to the S16 by having to get through a #1 seed. There were no upsets to clear the path. They have 100% earned their spot the hard way. If this doesn't people to buy in, I'm not sure what will.

Biggest upset in the tournament for this year imo. There will be none bigger this year.
Yea the High Point was big but this was dragonslayer type upset...the others were like Cinderella types...

By seeding, the three biggest upsets of the tournament are all +8 upsets:

Iowa over Florida (9 over 1)
High Point over Wisconsin (12 over 4)
Texas over Gonzaga (11 over 3)

High Point may be the best Cinderella story, but Iowa over Florida is the greatest dragon-slayer moment.

Texas, doesn’t really feel like much of an upset, TBH.

that's why last night's win was a must win...show that ben's boys will step up to meet big occasions, now i have to believe good players will sign. i'm thinking a decade long run like gonzaga's peak years is about to begin
I have been in that Gonzaga program emulation train all year! 🚂 Wisconsin too dirty…😉

Key is $$ and wanting to be seen. So consistently making deep runs in the NCAA tournament is part of it.

I remember Ben said soon after his hire...he wants to be surrounded not only by talented people but that he wants them to do life with him.

You mean like Kentucky, to name one? Of course, Kentucky is at home trying to find the best couch to watch Iowa and 15 other teams keep playing. But at least the Kentucky boys can count their money while they wait for Thursday.
I don't disagree, but I think what Kentucky proves is that all the NIL $$ in the world doesn't automatically guarantee big results. Team still needs to be connected and well coached (see Iowa beating FL). If it's a team of individuals just there for a paycheck, the results can be disappointing.

Still, I don't think there's any denying that the teams with the biggest NIL budgets are going to have a natural advantage, in general.
