When we were healthy, we were pretty good. I have a feeling pope knows exactly what he’s doing. He got robbed a little this year.

I agree that injuries really capped our potential this season, but I am also eager to see what Pope can do with 2-3 years of player development and continuity. I hope he acquires both some experienced veterans but also some players that can grow in his system.
I'm unclear as to why this game is any indication on how good we were lol.

I think this indicates how good Houston is when they are on more than anything. It also shows how random this tourney is from game to game. Houston could have easily lost either of last 2 games but survived. Today they are dominating.
When all is said and done the 1 seeds were the 1 seeds for a reason. Auburn may lose to msu but auburn is also due to play well. Will be interesting.

It tells me that we need to get some “dudes” like Houston, long & athletic that box out and block shots. Also, Houston’s defensive rotations are nice to watch cause when tenn drives and gets around their man then everyone else rotates. I feel like this was something we didn’t do or do very well this season.

I think the opposite. I think it indicates that we were a sweet 16 level team. The teams in the elite 8 are so much more disciplined, good defensively, hard nosed, athletic, and tough. We were clearly a step or 2 behind these guys and need some upgrades for next year.
I just watched the highlights from the UF game. One of the last games we played at near full strength minus Kerr. Robinson wasn't perfect but how big his loss was can't be overstated. Jax could go off on a 12 point run by himself and Brea had to play starter minutes from then on rather than being a sniper off the bench. Every injury kept changing the dynamics of our roster and it was just too much to overcome in the sweet 16. Really a shame.
Call it the eye test. We were so much better offensively than either of these teams. We lacked defense but we had improved throughout the year. I think Kentucky beats both these teams completely healthy. It’s all conjecture, I get it, but just looking at what we were, looks better than these two.
If anything it shows that we were not prepared to play the first half of the game, something that happened A LOT this season. We should have won.

This is the so called Kentucky Effect. Tennessee played out their -ss against us and we played like Shi-. Teams that play out their -ss against us usually lose the next game and so it goes. Let Tennessee's munchkin guard mouth off like he did in the game against us.
The seasons over. It's irrelevant and on to next season. This is UK, we don't so what ifs. We lost and it is what it is.
We should have realized that months ago. We will never be a top team in the new SEC with big men playing below the rim like Carr and Williams.

Houston would have handled UK with ease. There is no way UK can match up the physicality of Houston. The Cats would have been handled underneath and they wouldn't have fared well with Houston's perimeter defense.
It would have been a blood bath.
They also have a 9-2 foul advantage
Houston is not only physically tough but, they can shoot it and are mentally tough. UT has no answer for UH…
I don't understand why you think our soft bigs would have been able to handle UH's physical play. They would have done what UT did to us times 10.

It also solidifies how the league officials gave "protected player" status to the leagues short 5'-x guards, calling fouls on the defense every time they drove the lane. SEC teams have been beaten by teams with tall,long quick guards and our teams got nothing but a stripped ball when they drove the lane. They couldn't shoot 3's over the taller defenders that played them tight.
The Huston vs Duke contest will be officiated totally differently. Huston will be in serious foul trouble before half-time.

I'd venture to guess 69 points in this given the slow pace was a very good offensive performance.

We may see Houston called for breathing near Cooper.
If you do the math it shows Houston would beat us by over 30.
I don't think we would have matched up very well with Houston TBH.

That is exactly the point. Why were we saying we won second half. That did not change a single thing. We still lost. I agree 100% with your "what's the point" statement.
A team that when healthy could score and keep up offensively with anyone in the country but a team for the second year in a row couldn't guard a lamppost which is what put us in the tier below contending teams.
Right? Lol. If anything a 20pt loss makes the other nights loss look that much worse.
