This is much worse than one disastrous year.

Unless Pope is gone after this year, and with Barnhart as AD I give that a 5 percent chance, next year is going to be the real debacle…

1. UK has no recruiting class and Pope has shown no ability to sign difference making freshmen.

2. Clearly the players who could come back were massively overpaid. So you either throw good money after bad, or get rid of them all and start over.

3. What difference maker in the portal is going to come play for a coach who will clearly be a lame duck next year, with no real track record of getting guys into the NBA by improving their games or through deep connections in the league.

4. How can anyone trust this staff’s ability to find and develop diamonds in the rough?

I don’t see any way Pope bounces back from this year and assembles a Kentucky-worthy team. That will be much, much harder than when he was a fresh face with a lot of momentum, or a coach coming off a somewhat promising first year.

Top talents have much better options than to waste a critical year of college development playing for Mark Pope’s disorganized, low-energy program, and getting booed by the fan base.

The only possible answer is that he has to go. But Kentucky doesn’t have an AD with the courage or energy or passion to figure that out.

As long as the NIL is worked out and Barnhart and Capiluto are gone, we’ll figure it out. Things change very fast these days, transfer portal means you can literally win a title by throwing a team together. These freshman classes for the most part aren’t even that great anymore and they definitely don’t win championships the data shows that.

We can easily be great next season so thank God for that. Question is, should we go ahead and fire pope and Barnhart and clean out now. I say, yes. Just get it over and set the table this won’t be tolerated.

Barnhart has screwed the Kentucky Basketball Men's team 3 times with the BCG hire, the Cal extension, and hiring Pope. The awful Stoops extension, Joker Phillips hire, and Elzy was another lazy hire. How this man is still employed at the University of Kentucky is beyond me. **** the Directors Cup, they can shove it up his ***.

Stokes/collins/dent will now become the most important recruits in the last 3 decades. The immediate future of the program may very well depend on what they decide. We can’t simply rely on the portal to rescue our future. Getting those guys will tell us if pope has a chance to make it work here.

You honestly think with our current state we have any chance with any of them?

I love KSR but the whole "Mitch has been great thing," is a KSR narrative.
100% they want their access and they can’t go at Mitch and get it. And they’ve said it over and over and 30% of the fanbase are like the walking dead. “Best AD in UK history” is a load of ******* ******** and always was. IMO He was brought in to be a hatchet man and suck funds away from athletics and into their landlord operations. Nobody could survive as an SEC AD 2 and a half decades being this average and bad if they weren’t corrupt. Better AD’s than him have been fired in this league. KSR and the rest of the media pushing that nonsense for access is old and tired. He’s always been a bad AD for an SEC program.

NIL is stacking up to be a problem. Mitch went all in thinking the SCORE Act was going to reel in the collectives and essentially the “pay to play” NIL and signed a deal with JMI that basically handcuffs UK using collectives to compete on a level playing field. If the SCORE Act were passed the JMI deal would probably work but Congress tabled it. So now UK apparently cant get the NIL worked out to get Collins and Stokes.

Agreed.

Assuming we don’t go on some magical run, whether Pope sees year 3 will in large part be determined by whether he gets commitment(s) from the 5 star targets out there. The fact he still hasn’t when it’s obvious he/the program needs them…is pretty telling in itself.

Won’t be pope figuring it out. Hes done. Hes not gonna be back. It serves no purpose. He will coach out the season but unless he turns things around big time he’s gone. He won’t even be able to recruit for next year. Kentucky has never wasted time

There’s got to be a way to get around it and get the players in.

I thought it was odd when Barnhart was giving his little BS interview he said “ENOUGH! We have the money! They’ve got so and so, they’ve got so and so, they’ve got so and so, we’ve got JMI!!

The only time he mentioned JMI in that rant, was when he said UK. Nobody else. But the others all have the same ones. I don’t know much about it But I did catch that.

Tell that to Lane Kiffin and Matt Campbell, both of those football programs look worse than Kentucky basketball. LSU had the governor involved!
I have said this, if nothing else the governor is going to have to get involved. It’s destroying the pride of the state that was guild over 100 years. He can get involved and get things done or vote him out.

Bingo. I concur. The AD should have been gone after just one of those many dumb moves. No one will hold Barnhart responsible for what is 100% his fault,..year after year after year.

I hope so otherwise it’s got the potential to get real ugly.
