This Paul Joshua fight seems fixed...

It was like a sparring session and seemed suspect at first, but that final punch was DEFINITELY real. Apparently, it broke Paul's jaw. You would think that a boxer of Anthony Joshua's caliber could knock out Jake Paul in round one, but maybe he just wasn't taking any chances early in the fight and knew he'd wear him out and eventually end it in good time. Jake Paul had a puncher's chance early in the fight. He has that weird rhythm and throws the right hand bombs with power here and there. Once he was tired out from running away from and hugging Joshua - and falling down and getting up - fuhgeddaboudit. Joshua slowed his pace so much that he wasn't one bit tired after six rounds either. It looked like he could have fought another fight after this one ended.

Until now, there's little about Jake Paul's previous fights that seemed legit. Last night changed things. Jake Paul stood in there and got knocked out by a former two time heavyweight champion. If Joshua hadn't knocked out Paul, it would have looked REALLY bad for boxing.

EDIT: Just watched it again. It doesn't even look like that last punch was thrown with full power. Compare the bombs that Joshua threw when he knocked down and then out Francis Ngannou.

“Jake is a freaking loser!” o wait…….

Jake Paul's net worth in 2025 is estimated to range from
$100 million to $200 million, with sources like The Economic Times, Heavy Sports and MARCA pointing towards the higher end (around $200M) due to recent massive boxing paydays from fights like his upcoming bout with Mike Tyson. His wealth comes from boxing, YouTube, his company Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), and ventures like Betr, with annual earnings often in the $20-$50 million range.

Boxing people are such clowns. If what boxing itself has done over the years hasn’t ruined boxing by now, then nothing Jake Paul does will cause any damage. Boxing survived Don King and the like, it will be fine.
I get what you're saying but, as insane as Don King was, boxing was still popular and generally respected during his reign.

Now...it seems like an afterthought if it's even thought of at all. Paul is probably one of the few (or only) name most people know and it has almost nothing to do with boxing

Wealth not as impressive as his girlfriends IMO....currently with Dutch speed-skater Jutta Leerdam....

However, there is not necessarily a strong correlation between one’s net worth and being an asset to the human race.
By your burn rate, you should be in the top 2% of net worth. You have a crazy amount of travel and adventures, which is cool.

As long as people are willing to pay to see violence done by other people to other people, boxing will be fine.

Unless we bring Roman style gladiatorial combat back, that is. That would put boxing and MMA type entertainment right out of business.

A professional athlete will kick the *** of any pretend athlete. It’s my impression that in general people do not fully comprehend the sheer astounding ability a professional possesses. That’s not even factoring in the mental toughness a professional will have.

I was a decent basketball player, could shoot the lights out. I would play with PSU varsity on the North Halls courts and could hold my own. While I was at Tennessee I often played pickup with the varsity; there was this All-SEC player who would leave me shaking my head. And this guy never played a game in the NBA, 4th round draft pick.

Boxing is complete a$$ anymore. It's a sham.

I didn't know it at the time, but I may have witnessed the grandest days of boxing. Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Leonard......... I remember asking my dad to send up $25 so I could watch CCTV live Hagler and Leonard at a bar on College Ave back in 87. I had a few extra bucks I had saved up for 4 beers..... lol...

The fight was frustrating to watch. Paul just kept running away and literally grabbing Joshua's leg seemingly trying to take him down. From what I watched last night, he's not a real boxer, but I do give him credit for making millions pretending to be a boxer and getting people to actually fall for it.

Apparently, the punch realigned Paul's teeth. The surgeon had to remove teeth (7 is the number cited but not confirmed) and insert titanium plates.
Click on image two on the link. There’s a 3-D recon of his face and jaws. There’s one missing tooth. The right mandibular first molar. This tooth may have been missing prior to the injury as I don’t see a fresh socket. His wisdom tooth have been removed previously so that’s five total missing teeth. Often a fracture on both sides of the mandible occurs with a strong blow. The u shape of the jaw and the way forces dissipate tends to exhibit a fracture on each side.
If the 3-D recon they have shown is in fact, Paul, there are not seven traumatically lost teeth.

I didn’t see the fight live so I don’t have any post fight images to look at. But if you look at him sticking his tongue out here, there is really minimal blood coming out of his mouth. If he had a bilateral jaw fracture as well as seven teeth that are going in the bucket, he would’ve been choking on his own blood. Even if it’s just the jaw fractures , the typical presentation would be more bleeding , and more pain . He looks pretty comfortable.

So they were able to install titanium plates in his jaw without shaving his beard? I suppose they inserted them from the inside?

Great point. I was looking at that too. They might have planned a trans-oral approach. But you would typically shave him anyway just in case you needed to open up from below the jaw through the skin. The shave would be done at the prep stage. Before the surgery begins, shave then a betadine or chlorhexidine wash, and finally the paper drapes are placed.
Typically even with a trans-oral approach, you still would use transcutaneous (small skin incisions) to have your screw driver and drills perpendicular to the bone. So shave the patient.
