This was a game we expected to lose

Remember? All offseason and so far this season people have referenced random SEC West road games against teams far less talented than us as the primary obstacle of 40-0.

Everyone has said they expect our best effort in the marquee games, and that a team like Kansas or Carolina wasn't going to knock us off, that it would be a nobody on a noon tip or Tuesday night in February where we couldn't buy a bucket and the effort seemed flat.

Today was one of those games. We shot as badly as we have since Cal's been here, another guy had a career day against us, we had four guys foul out, and had some bizarre whistles against us all while in a funk from the long layoff of Christmas break. This was a game we expected to lose, knew the recipe for, saw unfold exactly as we expected it to...

...and won the damn thing.

I pretty much agree with this. I had a post earlier talking about a lost week without an actual loss. That's how I'm going to look at it right now. UK played poorly, opponents played over their heads, and UK still won.

There's a caveat to this, however. UK needs to respond, and make a statement reestablishing themselves as a dominant team. If UK doesn't do that, and continues to slog through games, then: A- a loss will come very soon, and B- it goes from being a mini-slump to being an exposure of flaws.

I agree, Gonzo. The conference slate is a marathon, not a sprint. One thing I would like to see, however, is UK employing a faster pace, rather than the perceived "slowing" into more half-court sets. I think the fatigue factor for other teams gets diminished greatly whenever they're not pushed continually.

Even when we went down 11 and were playing like crap I knew and expected that we would come back. That is the thing about this team....they refuse to lose the ballgame.

UK fans as a general online entity, of which you are clearly excluded. Thanks for being here after we struggled though, another thing "we" expected.

Be easy on 3Rex guys, it has been a rough season for him with UK winning and doing so well.

He is also upset because UL lost a tough one on Saturday, as his hero is Rick Pitino.

Couldn't agree with you more but this was the first road game. We just getting started. The only thing missing from the formula was the crowd. aTm didn't bring it. We will meet a hostile crowd and the same scenario again. Let's see who steps up.
