This was the Cal that beat Pitino a dozen times

This is what he does. He gets up for the games that feel personal. We should have seen this coming
I did see it coming. Woke up this morning with the same feeling I had the day of the Wisconsin game in 2015.

Reminds me of the game we won at Auburn last year when they were undefeated at home and we were double digit dogs. Cal pulls a big win out of his *** every year. It was usually against Pearl or Pitino at UK.

my biggest worry is that this team might lose their confidence, Jr technical FT missing both of them and then the team( including the coaches) giving up in the second half …

Right now we don’t a PG…. And Pope is having a hard time redefining roles..

My biggest fear is that the injuries are just too much to overcome. We won’t win anything if we need chandler to play the minutes he’s playing.

CCC should have taken it personally more often in the NCAA Tournament. Especially against Pearl as one of those guys he gets up for in the 2019 Elite 8 after whipping them twice in the same season as well as Calhoun with UConn in the 2011 Final 4.

It’s amazing to know JR shot 90% from the line last year …

I know a lot of folks on here don't care much for MJ. But this is what he talked about how Cal these past few seasons would win a road game fans really didn't expect them to win.

The ongoing issues with defense, and now injuries apparently, are going to keep this team from making a run in March.

Pope honestly did one heck of a job putting together a team in about 3-4 weeks.

Our ft shooting is terrible of late. We have things we cant control, but we can control that. This team is getting emotionally derailed too with the injuries.

He's had an assistant watching our every move and scouting this game for months. His season is complete. Notice Atkansas fans arent flooding here. They are already done with him.

Absolutely. They scouted us way better than any team cal scouted in years AND coached guys to the scouting report.

Harried our imposter pgs to wear them down and turn them away from williams, so we couldn't get into our offense.

They saw carrs weak handoff last game and shot the gap for the same steal this game, at a time they were on life support and needed it.

Then throw in the intent and focus they played with. We actually lost to the better team. The question Arkansas should be asking is - why hasnt this team and coach been who showed up all season?

Also fyi - this sucks so much worse because im not sure we'll get a chance to pay him back unless its in the post season.

There wasn’t any slick coach moves here. It was as simple as his team were motivated and played their best game of the season. I imagine those boos directed at Wagner/Theiro/Z probably added to that.

How many teams could be trying to play at this level without their best two point guards and be consistently successful? Ask the other coaches in the SEC and top 20.

Arkansas shoots 33.5% from the 3 point line.

They shot 52% vs us. And while it's easy to say "We gave them too many open looks," you have to think making them beat us from 3 was a big part of the strategy.

I didn't see a Calipari team that couldn't make 3's suddenly making them.

Hilariously, Wagner and Thiero got to the rim all they wanted.

I think we knew the bottom would happen. I was hoping Oweh could’ve maybe helped on one after his performance on Lanier but whatever. The main difference between last night and Tuesday was our opponent made open 3s one night and missed them the other.

You're right.

I think Pope has been kind of forced into playing that defense. Dare them to beat us from 3. I think against an Arkansas team that shoots less than 34% from 3 and is more athletic than us--that's the right defensee. They just made a ton of shots. Some of them really difficult step back 3's in the case of DJ.

While I agree with this statement, in my heart I also know Pitino lost some games to UK he would have won against other teams. I can’t explain it, I know Pitino never threw anything or did anything like that, but I’d look at some of the factors and it left me bewildered some years (I certainly was always glad for a win!).

(We gave them open looks). They have been missing open looks all year!

Yeah it's not like it takes a Herculean coaching effort to beat this UK team.
Diebler, White, and Byington didn't have any problem and they are far from HOF coaches.

It would have been awesome if Cal would have coaches spending time watching film of St Peters and Oakland the night before the games.

Exactly. Seeing how well he scouted us and stymied our normally unstoppable offense showed he never really lost the ability. He just lost the desire. He isnt about winning college games. Hes about changing lives.

At some point circa 2016 that went from being a sales pitch to the truth. That is except for the regular season game here and there that he personally cares about, like this one.
